Kelley Schedule

I am taking w-131 and econ -201 over the summer
my fall schedule is
Bus-A 100 first 8 weeks with Winston
csci-A 110 with pope (to prepare for bus K-201
bus c104 with deeds
pol-y-100 as a gened
sph-i 100 stress reduction ( second 8 weeks)
only 13 credits. Is this enough credits and am I wasting my time with pol-y since the advisor said It does not count for anything

There is no point in taking POLS-Y 100 because Micro and Macro Econ are required to graduate from Kelley, and they fulfill the SH gen ed requirement. If I were you, I would take something like Classical Mythology: CLAS-C 205. It fulfills an A&H and WC credit that you actually need.

Here is a nice tool to search for gen ed classes:

With all due respect iubaccounting, I strongly disagree even though the advisor is right.

OP, Absolutely take E201 (and maybe E202) outside of IUB unless you’re majoring in Econ. Check out the grade distributions and professor reviews for those classes and you’ll know why I feel so strongly. In addition to M119, M118, and A100, the Econ classes are nasty at IUB.

Take Pols-y 101 (not 100) for a relatively easy A and an interesting class.

I would skip csci-A 100 unless you really have never seen Excel or are afraid of computers.

Definitely take more than 13 hours but not more than 16 in the fall. If you are not in Hutton Honors already and would like to be, you need 14 hours first semester to be considered. Hutton Honors will allow you to take honors sections courses with better profs and curves.

Use your Freshman schedule to boost your GPA and credits for registration priority and possible Kelley Honors app in the Spring.

@IUBOOS But don’t the Econs still count for gen ed if taken somewhere else? I don’t know if the OP will take them somewhere else, but I thought they still counted towards the gen ed requirement even if taken somewhere else. I just thought that it didn’t count for any requirements. I didn’t necessarily mean that the class itself is pointless

@IUBOOS I do not see a pols-y 101 listed. Can you tell me the name of the class

how many credits do you think you need coming into IU to make a difference in getting into spring classes I will have 9

I will have 9

OP,

I don’t know how you get the 13 credits. IUBOOS and IUBACC had some good points.

I suggest that you consider T-175 and K201 rather than SPH-i-100 and A110. Regarding Pols-y-100, I would caution against taking courses not being counted toward your degree requirement.

Should you consider PSY-P-101?

Since there are already so many threads on this topic I figured I would simply reply to this one rather than start another one. So, I am an incoming freshman looking to gain SA into Kelley and would appreciate any comments/tips on my fall schedule and maybe some advice for what to schedule in the Spring. In high school, through dual-credit (I never took an AP exam) I got credit for PSY- P 101, HISP S 200 and 250 (also tested into 280 on the placement exam and will be pursing a Spanish minor), MATH- M 211, and W- 131.

At Orientation, my adviser and I came up with this schedule for the fall:

BUS- K 160: I am taking this because I am not great with computers, and she said it is essentially a prep course for K 201 which I will be taking in the Spring. Also, my professor for this course is Sera who seems to be one of the best for this course and K 201.

ECON E 201- S&H Gen Ed and required for KSB, not sure if required for admission.

HISP- S 280- Required for minor, tested into and have dual credit for 200 and 280.

MATH M 118- My adviser said my M 211 credit exempts me from taking M 119 which is certainly nice and I figured it might be best to avoid taking this in the same semester as K 201.

PSY- P 102- My credit for P 101 + this help cover S&H credits for Gen Ed.

Notes: 15 Credit Hours, I tried to sign up for Business Presentations (I believe BUS- C 104??), but it was already full, so I will try to take that in the Spring for the composition course since I already have credit for W- 131. My adviser said I could have signed up for BUS- A 100 in the tail end of fall semester if I thought I had time, and be able to drop it before it began to avoid receiving a “W” but I decided it might be best to take it in the first 8 weeks of 2nd semester so I am not worrying about this class as finals start to roll around.

Any thoughts, advice, constructive criticism are greatly appreciated! Best of luck to all of the SA kids out there lol and obviously thoughts from former SA freshman are extremely welcomed.

hoosiernation10, wow that’s really discouraging that all of the BUS-C 104 classes are already filled so soon. Are you on the wait list for any of the BUS-C 104 sections? If not, and you would prefer to take it first semester (my recommendation), then put yourself on the wait lists for as many sections as you can. There is no limit to the number of classes you can wait list. Also, if they open a new section, they may notify people who are on wait lists for other sections. Otherwise, you may not know that they have opened a new section.

Then if you can get into BUS-C 104, you can go ahead and drop PSY-P 102. You said you are taking it to help cover S&H credits for Gen Ed, but PSY-P 101 and ECON-E 201 will cover your S&H, so PSY-P 102 won’t really count for anything.

Sorry like ace550 said it’s PSY-P 101.

I don’t know the exact credit splits for earlier registration but u should know your time to register will be a specific time as well as day. When classes are filling up every minute counts. OTOH, my waitlists usually workout as many people register for too many classes on purpose to hedge bets and then drop before classes start. I recently was 15th or so in line and the waitlist cleared in a few days much to my surprise.
