Hi, my kiddo will be a freshman at Kent and found out she’s in Field Dorm (near Mattison Auditorium). Anyone have info about what the dorm rooms, etc., are like in Field?
Field is one of the newer dorms and on the smaller side for Kent. It is particularly good if your kid is a musician because there is no need to leave the building to get to the practice rooms. Also no need to leave to get to the dining hall. My kid’s only problem with it was a Fall invasion of ladybugs in his dorm room but those were easily enough dealt with.
For some reason I thought Field was all boys, but I now recall something about changes with dorms and the third form, so I guess I heard correctly. Field is a great location.
Yes, they have changed it. Turned it into a girls dorm and have made North dorm all boys.
Thanks for that info @Temperantia b/c sometimes I just cannot keep up. Any other big changes? Case?
Thanks, folks! Lucky kiddo to get in a newer dorm I know a lot of third form girls are in Case this year.
They’ve changed many of the dorms but I’m not sure about the specifics. My son graduated in the spring. He was surprised that they’ve made Hoerle Hall, the newest and most desirable dorm that had been co-ed (by wing), all girls. It was considered to be a reward of sorts to live there as an upper classman and many boys think that taking away that option is unfair to the boys. Don’t hesitate to let me know if you have any questions. I may not know breaking news but I’m and alum and my kid had a rewarding experience there.
Uh oh! Thanks for that heads up, @Temperantia. I will no doubt be hearing all about this “grave injustice” re: Hoerle at some pt. soon. Sending good thoughts your way for your 1st drop off day, @Susieknits. Just go with the flow and don’t worry about anything that may not fall into place. It all works out by the time you pass the gate in late afternoon.
