housing selection

hey, i know there was a post on here about this once but it was deleted because noone posted in it for a while. i figured more people have been accepted now so i was just wondering which residence halls everyone has applied for. i put territorial as my first choice based on learning communities and frontier as my second because i heard all freshman dorms give the best experience.

Territorial and Frontier are very socially dorms and are a lot of fun. Territorial is the most popular dorm choice so get your housing application in early. If you're looking for a quiet and serious dorm, Middlebrook is the way to go. If your a freshmen i would recommend living in the superblock (Territorial, Frontier, Pioneer, or Centennial)

How early is "early"?

D really wants to be in the superblock (if she picks the U) but she hasn't made her final decision yet on which school. Any thoughts on tips to get assigned in that area?

If you don't get in one of the all freshmen dorms, are the other two close enough that you still get the "flavor" of being with the other freshmen? Does the RA or anyone still do any programing for just the freshmen?

Out of all D's schools, I am most concerned about lack of a freshman experience at UMN, anyone have any thoughts?

I was the one that started the post, Apayton. Thanks for posting it again. I applied to Territorial but if I get into the Honors Program, I want to be in Middlebrook. Where have you applied?

believersmom, if your daughter really wants the superblock she can look at the LLCs (Living Learning Communities) and request some in the superblock since they give priority housing assignments to people who request LLCs

I don't know if I was early persay... but I submitted my application late november I believe.

Thanks Play-Doh, there just aren't any LLCs that she is interested in, I guess she will just take her chances...

by early i meant before january. Living and Learning communities dont really mean much from my experience but i do belive they will help you get into the dorm you want.

Living learning communities really can help connect you with people in similar fields and then possibly with similar interests. If nothing else, you may have people in your same classes so studying or homework help wouldn't be far away.

I will tell you there is a huge difference between Territorial and Middlebrook. Middlebrook is where the Honors kids, band/music majors, and art majors live. Many of the people that live in middlebrook are a little weird and if you enjoy partying, you probably wont lenjoy Middlebrook. Middlebrook is also on the west bank and going to weekend activities on the east bank can be a pain. Middlebrook does have the best dinning facility so that is one thing it has going for it.

Which hall has least parties and quietest atmosphere?

Middlebrook is the best for studying, so I've heard, but apparently Comstock is also very quiet. Neither, as far as I know, have a lot of partying either.

THX azr, and are there additional requirements or required documents for international students to apply off campus housing?

how about the apartment?
which is better?
u villiage? yudof? or wilkins?

Yudof is in the middle of campus, Wilkins is where many athletes live and is by Dinky Town, and UV is the furthest from campus, but still not too far. Look at the pricing, that might make your decision for you.

What About Sanford?

Sanford is right next door to Wilkins near Dinky Town.

anyone know about frontier? It seems like a nice hall.

yea, lots of frosh...or all frosh i forgot. yea it's nice

There are so many options and I cannot decide! It's April now so I just need to send it off. I'm applying late, so I don't know what's even left for me...

BUT, I was wondering if someone could give me some suggestions based on this info:

I'll be at the College of Design

Double room (maaaybe a cheap single)

I might bring my bike

I need SOME quiet so I can study, do my homework and stay focused, but I DON'T want a dorm that is always quiet and you never meet people. I want a half-social-half-focused dorm... I wonder if it exists haha

It'd be nice if I didn't have to share a bathroom with a million people ;)

in other words the dream dorm, lol.

If you go on the site, itll tell you how many peeps you have to share a bathroom with for each hall. For quiet, I've heard Middlebrook and Comstock are good, but I really don't know if they are "too" quiet. I picked Middlebrook anyways since I figured I'll meet friends and socialize wherever I ultimately end up.

The frosh dorms I've heard and assume are most social.
