in w/ 3.88 31act undeclared physical sciences

Is applying undeclared better in some ways? Or is it bad for your major to do that.

Is animal biology major competitive?

Note to everyone: It doesn't matter what you apply under going into UC Davis, because you can always change your major to something else after your 1st quarter. And yes, from my experience, applying under a less popular major will help you get into a school.

What if the class is full by then? Are they obligated to let you in even if it is?

I really do hope so, because from the examples in this topic, it seems i will have a hard time getting in with an Animal Bio major there with only about a 3.7 gpa...

so that means biochemistry at Davis is competitive too??

I don't think Biochemistry/Molecular Biology are that hard to get into. I got into Genetics, which is under the same section as MCB, but I do advise you keep above a 3.0.

how about Animal Science and/or Biology?

Key to getting into Davis? APPEAL! That's what I did, and it worked ;)

I had a 3.2 UC GPA/2.8 unweighted. About 15xx on the SAT's and my major was undeclared social sciences.

Isn't the average acceptance gpa for Davis this year 3.8-3.9?

You are EXTREMELY lucky and fortunate to get in with that gpa.

I'm not sure, but I think the 3.8-3.9 is hs gpa and not UC gpa.

You are in competition with everyone who applies to the same college as you, despite major. Does major have a role? Since you are placed into a college; Letter & Science, Biological Science, Engineering or Agriculture & Environmental Sciences; by the major that you select then it does have a small role. However, we do not consider majors to select students. We consider the college to which you applied

I agree with Fooshy. Also, about 1,000+-200 people "joined" the college of letters and science after my freshman year; I know this because I like to check my rank. When I say "join" it means that they switched majors from Engineering/Bio/etc to L&S. It went from something like rank x/~2400 to rank x/~3200. During your freshman year, do your work, or else you'll be screwed and once you get a 2.5, a 3.0 will seem like an achievement when you're really just at/below the 50th percentile.
