I have a 3.0 GPA 1760 SATs and got into Davis for communication

whilst my friend has a 3.7GPA 2070 SATS and got rejcted by Davis for Biology

I think UCD’s acceptance is largely dependent on your choice of major

I don't know about that...

I got accepted with a 3.3 GPA and 1840 SAT for biology. Then again, I could just be an anomoly. shrug

Sure applying to an impacted major won't necessarily help you but for the most part any top 50 school will have a broad admissions rubric that doesn't solely place value on numerical stats..

i got rejected 3.6 gpa and 1910 SAT for Mathematics major.

this sucks :(

Yes I think major has a HUGE part in it.

My friend got rejected with a 3.9 and 2000 sats.

My other friend got in with a 3.2 and 1700 sats. She applied under CROP MANAGEMENT.

Go figure.

I got into engineering with a 3.7 and 1970 SAT

I have pretty below-average stats and got in for Design, haha.

my GPA was 3.96, SATs were 1750 and i got into my alternative major, undeclared humanities :(

my first choice was neurobiology, physiology and behavior. i hope i can change to that when i'm there...

3.45 GPA , 1970 Sat's , got in under chem. engineering

i got into engineering with a 2.8 and 1990

I got into Sociology in L&S with 4.3 GPA and 1830 SAT.

got into Compsci/engineering

3.7/2000/800/720

rejected for 3.75 UC GPA and 1940 SAT for biological sciences

no word from irvine...

and yes, BIOLOGICAL SCIENCES major/college puts you in a separate and more competitive pool of applicants. i called them up about it.

Is animal biology an impacted major?

We now know for sure major has an important (VERY IMPORTANT from what I can see) role in your admissions. Even their FAQ says so now... after I got rejected.

Funny thing was that EVERYONE on this board said major plays NO ROLE.

Now I feel cheated and I FEEL VERY angry. My friends with lower stats than me got into my dream school because they had ridiculous majors no one chose. Bah... I'm just ranting now.

Where did it say so on the FAQ? :O I always thought that major plays no part too...

IMO i don't see how major wouldn't play a part, each major has a certain amount of slots they can fill, so obviously the more popular majors would be more competitive because more people are applying for that major.

I've always understood they have a certain number of spots in each COLLEGE, not major.

As in Engineering College/letters and sciences etc.

csspeedbump, that's correct. It would be an utter nightmare if they included prospective major as a factor in admissions since almost everyone changes majors at least once in college.

4.0 and a 2150, Got into Undeclared Life Sciences.

I don't know why I would have gotten in undeclared if major is such a big deal.
