Kid more stressed than parents

Oh, and until we started this process we didn’t realize how competitive nursing is as a major. It’s like engineering. You have to apply early and have better stats than the school in general.

Kids at her snooty school don’t realize that and are already looking down on her, “why nursing? That’s weird. That’s like trade school.” 1) nursing is a profession! An honorable one! 2) What’s wrong with trade school? You get a marketable high paying skill, can run your own business. Kids can be so mean.

Nursing school admissions look at interest in and exposure to the profession. I suggest she look into volunteering at a hospital or school this summer or after school. Stuff like that. My D did that and also does an “Allied Health” class through her school which teaches anatomy and lets them do hospital observations.

I encouraged both when she said she wanted to go into nursing because I wanted her grossed out ahead of time. So far not grossed out yet LOL

Decent grades, and prep for the ACT and she will have good options I bet!

What about GW? Mid sized university with a Jewish community. I’d imagine the nursing school is pretty competetive but I don’t know that much about it. The Milken Institute School of Public Health has some new undergrad degrees she might like if she wants to look at other degree options.

GW is a test optional school so, depending on her scores, she could apply that way.

@TimeFlies2 ,
My best friend’s daughter is a freshman nursing student at URI this year. From her college applcation experience, UMass/Amherst nursing school was and is incredibly difficult to get in ( you already know that). She was not accepted there but was accepted to several other colleges including St.Anselm, Worcester State U., Fitchburg State U., Simmons College, all direct admit to nursing schools.

St. anselm gave her a very attractive financial package. She was hesitant because she wanted a large u. Fortunately, URI came back with an as attractive finacial package. She gladly accepted it and is very happy at URI.

The nurse at our state department graduated from Fitchburg State. She is a wonderful and very competent nurse who is making a six figure salary working with us. She will also get pension when she retires.

I wish I were good enough to study nursing back then.!!!

I wish your daughter the best.
