OK, so I lost my ID number and PIN for checking my application status at UMASS Amherst. It was on a letter they sent me a few weeks ago. I misplaced the letter and there doesn't appear to be any way I can retrieve the info using the school's website. Should I send an email to admissions asking if they can give me the info? Should I say I misplaced the letter? I just don't want them to think I was careless, which admittedly I was for losing the letter. Do you all have any advice?

Did they send you any information via an email? Are you sure you lost the letter? Misplaced just means you’ll have to look a bit more. You’ll definitely need that information again to find out acceptance information. I suggest you look through ALL your papers, and eventually ask by February / March if it doesn’t turn up.

I just gave the letter to my mom and let her keep and I just saved the ID and Pass onto my computer.
If they received everything already then I wouldn’t do anything and wait until you get your decision by mail, but if they didn’t update it and put that they got SATs or transcripts I would call them. Don’t email it will take too long.

Don’t panic! Most of those websites have a place for if you lost your PIN/ID. That happened to me just last night and I clicked the “lost password” link and then typed in my email address and within the hour I got an email with my ID and password.

I’m all set now, thank God–it turns out my mom had taken the letter to make a copy of it. She found it for me now. Thanks for your help guys. :)
