Hi I’m in my first semester at occidental college right now but I’m thinking of transferring by the end of the school year. I don’t have my GPA yet since the first semester has not ended yet. I think oxy is a bit too small for me and I want to go somewhere bigger with more course offerings
ACT: 32
HS GPA: around 3.62 (I had a 3.71 all along until i screwed up the last semester of senior year)
Current major: Undeclared
Taking 16 units with 31 transfer units from dual enrollment and APs
Considering: USC, Claremont McKenna, Cornell
Any more schools I should consider?
Thank you!
What subjects of your interest do you find lacking at Occidental? I.e. what offerings in particular would you like to see at the new college?
Also, state residency? Cost constraints?
@ ucbalumnus State residency is in California, don’t really have a lot of cost constraints although Oxy did give me a really good scholarship and fin aid package.
I’m interested in International relation but also business and entrepreneurship, which oxy doesnt offer
CSUs and some UCs offer business.
USC is pretty transfer friendly. The UCs and CSUs will probably require a certain number of classes and credits and tend to favor the community colleges over private schools but still take transfers. McKenna is also small and even with the other 4Cs may be too small if Oxy feels that way. They are not as transfer friendly as other CA schools I believe because of selectivity.
The main thing you should check is transfer policies of the school you are interested in. Some allow transfer at the sophomore level, others art the Jr. Some require specific coursework to be complete.
