I pretty much lack EC's aside from the usual part time job, Phi Theta Kappa, musical instrument, and internship. Seemingly, Northeastern takes into account the uniqueness and diversity of their applicants, so I feel my chances are greatly hindered. I have a 3.8 GPA through 40 college credits and I'm applying for the Spring. Are there any transfer students who have applied to NEU and can share their insight on the matter? Or any NEU applicants for that matter that have lacked the tremendous EC's? I don't know about anybody else, but seeing some of the EC's that people have listed on collegeconfidential, I feel like an idiot, haha.

My son will be a freshman at NEU and I can tell you he didn’t have any great EC’s (read: none). I think SATs and grades still matter most.

I believe that if you have superior grades/test scores EC’s, or the lack of them, will not hurt your chances for admission. If your stats are average or below average, then good EC’s will help.

My understanding is that EC’s do weigh more heavily for merit scholarships though.

I agree with both of the answers. If you’ve got the grades and the test scores, you’ll be ok. EC’s are more for when they evaluate you for any kind of merit scholarship

I don’t have to submit test scores because I have over 24 college credits. Thanks for the posts- I suppose my grades and essay will be integral, as one would think.

haha I had like half that many ECs. You’ll be fine.
