Thanks everyone, we have been communicating via email with the AO for our area since before she applied. She told him she would be interested in an interview but was never called for one. We told them of her many many visits to Lafayette’s campus over the years, and how she has been wearing Lafayette swag since birth. Etc. So we don’t know what happened. Trying to talk to them to figure it out. All my daughter’s friends are telling her it was yield protection also.
I was wondering if applying for FA and receiving no merit is correlated? In the same boat.
Aww thank you!
Thank you, @HelicoptahMom! Funny enough, we live one hour from Lafayette and still have not received an acceptance letter via USPS from the college. But today my DS found out he was accepted with merit aid. YAY!!! And the admissions team did such a nice job personalizing his letter!
I think it is. I looked back at last years thread for Lafayette and it seems like there were similar issues. That is what made me google if they were need blind.
Lafayette is a 100 percent meets-needs school. I think that is why they offer so few merit scholarships. We were surprised by the generous FA offer my son received, but perhaps we’re an outlier. . . .
You had to sign up on the website for an interview through the admissions events calendar. It was a little hard to find the link and counterintuitive and unfortunate your AO didn’t mention that. There was no invite for interview.
Congrats to all who were accepted! My DD is waitlisted and it was her number one choice, we will see what happens. After reading the article above, part of me wonders if it is because we need a good amount of FA. But there is still hope.
That’s amazing, congrats to your daughter!!
My daughter was waitlisted too. We would also need a lot of aid. She was accepted at three other schools, and it will be hard to move forward knowing Lafayette is a possible option. Ugh! This is so hard! #firsttimecollegemom
My son was also waitlisted. We also would need a lot of aid due to having multiple kids in college at this time. Son’s stats were really strong for Layette so I do think finances may be a factor. I think in this crazy process of researching schools I inadvertently mistook Lafayette’s policy of meeting 100% of need as them also being a ‘need blind’ institution. Thanks to BlueBird91 for the link to the excellent article explaining how Lafayette does factor in student/family need when making the final decisions. Best to all!
We were very surprised, and thankful, today with the grant my daughter was offered. She has high stats but was test optional. No merit scholarships but enough FA to make it possible.
I hear ya and I think we thought the same! I have triplet seniors and a freshman in college!
Yes it is hard, she is excited about her other options but hard to give up on first choice!
I got in!!! I got in as an international student and got some good financial aid. I’m hoping I can appeal my package, though so I can get a little more and I’ll be able to attend.
Yeah it was in my top 2. I’ll definitely let them know!
Congrats!! Where are you from?
does anyone have any tips on waitlist letters? I have a few decisions left but I’m not entirely hopeful.
