hey everyone, just a few quick ed question about laf

does it help to be a female applying early decision (with very ballpark grades/ test scores for lafayette)?
i know lafayette is male heavy and not as many girls apply. Also, does it help that i dont need financial aid? I know lafayette likes to give the full amount of aid to each student who needs it among the people they accept… so if i am borderline does that help?
i have interviewed, taken 2 laf run tours but have visited the campus a bunch of times, been to a few info sessions, and have personally emailed my admissions person for my area several times. ( I know they love people who love them)
ALSO last question, when do you suspect we hear back ed? any ideas?

Hi Taylor,
I am an international student from Vietnam and currently, I’m studying in the US as a high school senior. Lafayette is purely my top choice among those schools I am applying to. During the researching process, I do have some questions which I hope you can help me answer.
I really want to get involved in the community like what I have done in high school in here and in Vietnam. Then, how strong are the community service clubs of Lafayette, such as K.I.C. (Kids In the Community) and Meals @ Third Street… If I want to know more information about those, where can I get the source?
I really want to apply to Lafayette under Early Decision but seeking financial aid is also a factor in my application process too. Then, should I still apply ED as an international student? My high school guidance did say that If I apply ED to Laf, Laf will consider me as a full pay student. I am quite confused right now!
I want to major in Computer Science or Mechanical Engineering. Those are really strong aspects of Lafayette as a strong engineering community in a liberal art context, which extremely interests me. Then, what really makes Lafayette special besides those? Internship or working experience?..
I do not smoke, drink or party a lot. But I am not nerdy type also. Is there any kind of dorm that I can choose to live a healthy life where is no drug or alcohol allowed?
Thanks a lot!

2) Contact Financial Aid directly about this. I doubt anyone else will be able to give you a full answer to this question.

3) I’ve written some about this in the past, check my post history specially in the “What makes lafayette engineering so good” thread. It’s mostly about why Laf engineering is so great, but I think it also answers your questions.

Haven’t been here in a while (studying for finals is boring :’( )
Looking at you eager applicants so remind me of my youth :’( Wish you all the best!

I’m an a Vietnamese student, Computer Science major. Hope I can help you with academic-related questions.

As for our Computer Science department, I’d say it’s a small (probably smallest) but very nice department. The intro courses are fascinating (Game Programming / Digital Media Computing / Robotics), and I know 2 seniors who had internship at IBM and Google, so you can definitely succeed if you utilize the opportunities here.

There is actually a second group that was made by accepted students. The settings label it as “closed” which means others should be able to see it but not be able to see the posts. Obviously this is not working properly and no one can see it. I can add u if u pm me ur name :). The other group is more of a prospective/hopeful students page that hasn’t done anything.

I have applied for admission into Lafayette (RD). I am interested in Engineering (undecided, perhaps civil/environmental), and may wish to explore Architecture (minor?). I like the idea of exploring my interests further at a liberal arts college, but am concerned that this is not realistic given the relatively small number of majors. I want to place myself in the best environment for success, and the flexibility that may be necessary to do so. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
@CollegeLife2015 I’m a current sophomore Electrical and Computer Engineering major at Lafayette. Although we are a small campus, there is still a lot of room to be flexible with your undergrad degree. Many engineering students do choose to minor in something, and several students at Lafayette do have double majors or a minor. I am not sure if we have an architecture minor, but we do have a make-your-own major option, which could be a good fit. I know someone who wanted to do aerospace engineering, and although Laf doesn’t offer it, he has been able to work out a way to get a good mixture of all of his interests in his unique degree. Same goes for students who want marketing and pre-med. Additionally, Lafayette encourages people to take an interest in engineering and liberal arts, since that is one of the best things about Laf. As for financial aid, I believe all students are reviewed to see what the need is and what scholarships applied. That being said, ED2 is just as binding as regular ED, so if you can afford it and they accept you, you will need to honor the binding agreement and pay with whatever aid (or lack there of) they give you. Hope this helps and feel free to contact me with any other questions.
Would love to know when the ED 2 letters go out. I would assume soon - or did they already go out? My D applied ED 2. Obviously her 1st choice. With 2/15 a Sunday, do applicants generally get the letters before or after the 15th?
