Lafayette College RD (Class of 2021)

Congratulations to all those who got accepted. Does anybody know when will they update the portal for international students?

Yes, I was offered a $6,000 federal loan. Thatā€™s it

@Hussainkestrel we are supposed to get an email today!

Our D was accepted with a nice, personalized acceptance letter as well.

Unfortunately, she was not offered a Marquis Scholarship. Does Laf listen to appeals for the Marquis Scholarship? If not, Laf is out of consideration for her.

Her stats are:
3.85 UW GPA, 4.3 weighted
35 ACT
9 APs and the rest honors in a top western PA public school
Solid ECs and leadership (OO event leader of debate team, captain of colorguard, founder of art club, FIRST robitics, etc.) though not extraordinary

She visited and interviewed with Laf as well. Her planned major is Engineering Studies.

@fatherofsam I doubt they offer an appeals process, but maybe if some Marquis Scholars choose not to attend they have an alternates list? you could contact them to ask.

Did anyone with an UW GPA below 3.9 receive merit aid. That seems to be the stats cutoff in the thread so far. Anyone have a different outcome that this. S is 3.8 UW, 4.16 W GPA, SAT 1470 (770M, 700 Lang) many APā€™s, many ECā€™s, strong leadership. My theory is that they have a 3.9 cutoff. S got no merit. Big difference with 20K plus merit going for the extra .1 GPA, but if that is their cutoff then congrats to those above. It may be more complex.

kinda confused why I got waitlisted when I got into Lehigh but whatever

Did any international student get a decision yet?

iā€™ve been waiting all afternoon and havenā€™t recieved anything yet! hopefully tomorrowww

international here. no still nothing

@Coll5678 we are opposites i got into Laf, but waitlisted at Lehigh

@Coll5678 @desperateplea To some extent the college app and decision process seems to be a little bit or more than a little bit a roll of the dice. S got waitlisted or outright rejected from a couple of real safety schools with no apparent driver. Similarly was accepted to those schools where his friends were rejected and same friends got in to schools where he was waitlisted.

@chel17 I do think it is more complicated than just a 3.9 cutoff. Iā€™m not sure how Laf re-calculates GPA. At my Dā€™s high school, it is not possible to get over a 4.0 but her 3.95 does include extra points for AP and IB classes so it is sort of weighted. She received the Marquis Award and Iā€™m sure they look at the whole picture of the transcript in addition to the actual average. Plus all the other stuff.

Lafayette just tweeted that the decisions for internationals will be emailed before April 1st. The Admissions Officer had told me they were going to send the emails today. Do you guys think the day was pushed back? Maybe we will end up receiving the emails tomorrow or even Friday! I canā€™t wait any longerā€¦

I donā€™t think their policy is to meet full demonstrated financial need. We got no aid, thus requiring loans for the full amount. Unless thereā€™s a magical change of heart, Lafayette is out.

International student and still havent heard of anything :frowning:

@nTv187 We internationals will most likely get it this Friday ( EST)

From the Lafayette site:

ā€œMore than half of our students receive financial assistanceā€¦ Our goal is for all admitted students to receive the aid they need to realize their educational goals.ā€

DD is first year student there and there has been a LOT of communication from the school and president about increasing the number of students and big fundraising activities for the purpose of increasing the amount of financial aid given out and allow more students with need to attend the school. I know that doesnā€™t help those needing the funding this year, but Iā€™ve been very impressed with this stated goal and the actions being taken - the President is great and she raised over $1 million in ONE DAY earlier this month just for financial aid. So admin is aware of the issue and trying hard to help. Iā€™d definitely call financial aid just in case to see if there is anything they can do.
Best of luck everyone - we love Lafayette but there are lots of great schools out there and anyone smart enough to get into Lafayette has plenty of other great options as well Iā€™m sure.

Rejected. International here.

Agh sorry:(( did u get an email? or did you receive the letter?
