Hey guys so I am going to be either junior or just below a junior credit wise and I am thinking about rushing for the fall. I have three questions currently about rush..

How exactly do I rush? Do I have to sign up for anything right now or can I just wait until rush week when school starts?

Am I at a disadvantage being a jr and rushing? I heard many frats only want freshman is that true?

I have heard nothing good things about Lambda and Sigma Chi, are these good house? Also are they hard to get a bid?

For more information regarding recruitment go to the IFC site for USC on the web. Before you consider Greek life have a frank discussion with your parents/guardian about costs. It is not inexpensive to be a member.

Fraternity membership is by mutual agreement. If you decide to go through recruitment I suggest looking at a much larger group of chapters. In some ways it is similar to choosing a college. Find a chapter that wants you as a member and you feel it is a good “fit”.

As a parent of a current Sigma Chi at USC, I have learned that Sigma Chi is one of the hardest houses at USC to rush and get a get bid. By the way, they do take in Juniors. Far less juniors then freshman and Sophomores tho. If you have any active friends in the house currently that could be a benefit to getting a bid. Georgia Girl is correct. The most popular houses on the row are not always the best fit. Look for a place where you have things in common with the active members. Think of it this way, you want a house with guys you can be life long friends with.

sigma chi and lambda are very similar in that they are both “popular” houses, but they both have a very certain, distinguishable “type” (not to stereotype, I’m sure not every guy is the same). This isn’t positive or negative, I’m just saying don’t force yourself to like them; if you don’t get along with them, you a. will waste your time trying to get a bid, b. join and hate it c. join and get dropped, also wasting your time. Just keep an open mind :)
