USC Sigma Chi

So I am a sophomore this year and I want to pledge Sigma Chi spring semester. I didn't rush this house this semester but instead half heartedly rushed at another house and was cut the first day. The guys seem friendly and down-to-earth, there seems to be a strong sense of brotherhood, and they have a solid reputation. My concerns, however, are: there seems to be little/no diversity in the house (I'm black) so that might put me at a disadvantage, it is very competitive to get a bid, and I don't really now anyone in the house. What should I do? I do want to be part of this house but theres going to be 200+ people rushing. Or should I rush at the same house I did last semester: I'm friends with several of the guys in the frat, I liked the majority of the guys in the house, and I believe that I would be more successful next semester since I've realized that I truly want to be in a fraternity.

I’m just rushed this year for a sorority so I’m not tooo familiar with frat rush, but if im not mistaken, guys can rush as many/little as they want right? Can’t you do both?

That said, I don’t know a lot of guys in sigma chi, but i know it’s considered a “top” guys’ fraternity so it could get competitive depending on who’s rushing. Try to get to know the guys more, though, from classes or through mutual friends so you can get a better sense of them. Just because THEY have a strong brotherhood (which most do, from what I’ve seen), doesn’t mean YOU would want them as brothers. :)

Good luck!

Rushing Sigma Chi is a kamikaze mission unless you’re fairly sure you’re going to get a bid. Like you said, it’s extremely competitive and debatably the most competitive on the row. That being said, if Sigma Chi is the house that you feel the most comfortable in, why not give it a shot. However, being a second semester Sophomore, you could end up losing another semester if you give it a shot and they don’t give you a bid. I would recommend going by some other houses on the first day of rush next semester. If you get along with some guys in another house, you might want to consider adding them to your list.
