Laney college or Berkeley city college?

I have to attend community college, complete my lower divisions there, to get back into UC Davis, where I was dismissed due to unsatisfactory grades (guaranteed readmission as long as I complete lower division courses with 3.1 or over).

Now that CCSF is on the brink of closure (and it's near impossible to register for courses now), and Skyline is a pain in the butt to commute to without a car ( I live in San Francisco), I've decided to attend Laney college, because it is close to the Bart station. I went there today, and it was really easy to commute to.

I'm deciding between Laney college and Berkeley city college. My dad said that Laney college is located at a very dangerous place, filled with crime. He said that if I attend Laney, I shouldn't register for night classes. Well, that's hard to control! Because I would be happy to even get classes. However, safety is also a concern of mine.

So which is safer: Berkeley city college or Laney college? In which college is it easier to register for classes at? Personal experiences and advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks a bunch!

Berkeley City and Laney are both in the Peralta district; so are Alameda and Merritt. So you could easily go to them interchangeably, depending on where you find open classes.

Night classes at Laney…I wouldn’t recommend it. But day classes are fine. It’s not the most dangerous part of Oakland but I still wouldn’t recommend being alone at night there.

If you can’t get enough classes there, then why don’t you just register at CCSF?

Yeah, it’s best to avoid night time around Laney…

Have you looked at DVC? It’s also not the easiest to get to but I know hella people that go there that are satisfied with the school. It’s also in a safer area than both Laney and Berkeley City.

No idea if it’s possible, but have you looked at taking classes at SFSU? Just checked on their website, looks like you can take 6+ credits for around $3,500 (or 6 or less for around $2,200). If possible, that might be the easiest option for you.
