so i just took the language placement and got spanish 2040...does anyone know what this means? ive taken up to level 5 spanish but no ap spanish so im kinda afraid im gonna be placed too high, when i visited i talked to a bunch of people with that problem

No worries - Tulane, like many schools, simply tries to place you according to your high school record and any other evidence. They would rather you not take a course that is too easy as that is unfair to the true beginning students in the class as well as antithetical to what you are there to do, which is learn new things. So they figured you are ready for Spanish 204, Conversation and Composition. Sounds about right for as much Spanish as you had in high school, but if you find after a week you find it is too advanced, you can drop the class and add Spanish 203, the class that is a prerequisite for 204. But I suspect you will have no problems. My D placed into a 300 level French class and did just fine, and her amount of French was identical to your amount of Spanish. She also did not have an AP French class.

My S was placed into Spanish 204 and couldn’t handle it. After 2 weeks, he spoke with his advisor and she placed him into 203 and it worked out great. He never had AP Spanish but, like you, took Spanish in high school up to Level 5.
