Laptop Speakers

So... I'm about to head off to college, and, as im sure many people do nowadays, I'm planning to use my laptop as my stereo. I have some nice headphones for private jamming, but my roommate and I have similar music tastes and I'm sure we'll want to rock it out loud some. Any suggestions on good basic speakers for a laptop?

If you want to save money get these speakers. They're around 20 bucks and they can get loud. The bass is also pretty good too.

Oh and these ones are great too.

thanks for the suggestions... the bestbuy link just comes up to a blank screen for me though... which is kinda odd.

I got lucky, my Dell has built in speakers. So that was one thing I got to cross off my shopping list. :p

Most laptops have built-in speakers, just they won't be able to play music as well as a set of speakers.

if you have some money to spend then go with these

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002SQ2P2/103-6457697-2649458?v=glance&n=172282

SO loud. the bass is crazy heavy.

I just bought a set of altecs with seperate sub module for $48. They sound great.

You know, volume and bass aren't the only things that make music sound good- in fact, speakers that overload the bass often distort the music itself. Just get a plain pair of speakers and listen to your music. No need to crank it to high heaven and shake the glass.

is it actually worth bringing good speakers? i'm not sure if theres enough space to bring a 2.1 system to school...and i don't know if it will get damaged. any thoughts?

I had the exact situation as the op, i wanted to buy some speakers for my laptop so i didnt have to bring a seperate stero, i ended up goin with these

I really like them... they go plenty loud enough for music, games, or movies and unlike a lot of these other speakers people have suggested these are easily portable, they just slide into my laptop case. they were like 30 bucks at wal-mart

Logitech x-230's..bought them and they are awesome and only for $35...worth every penny and then some.

I realize this is a bit more expensive - but........ it is portable - 4lbs - it can be used as a shelf speaker - durable - compatible with IPods (actualy is a docking station - base can be controlled on the IPod itself), MP3 players, computers, tv's, dvd players, etc........ can be used with batteries as well...........

Altec Lansing inMotion Portable Speaker System for Apple Ipod - at Best Buy - model IM9

Serves a multitude of options - sounds awesome too. It is 11x8x3 inches in size.

Just a thought

"Logitech x-230's"

I have these too! Awesome speakers, the high and midrange are perfect and the woofer is all but distortionless.

check these out, suround sound 1200watt for about $30

Another vote for the Logitech x-230s.

I too am the happy owner of the Logitech X-230s.

A good set of headphones would be more worthwhile.

I already have good headphones... so where did you guys buy your X-230s? I could probably get them online for cheaper but they were a good bit more than $35 when I checked them out at Best Buy.

logitech z-2300 if you want a huge subwoofer. just remember that your audio card may limit the clarity and "boom" that your subwoofer and speakers can provide.

Bought them from buy.com for $35 with free shipping.
