you guessed it...laptop speakers

yet another thread that fits in with the ever-growing list of laptop questions.
my apologies.

now for the question!

i want some sweet speakers for my new (new :)) laptop. i dont want ones that have a sub with them, that would be overkill.

any suggestions for some REASONABLY PRICED, GOOD QUALITY, notebook speakers (with links, maybe?).

thank you lots.

You can get a 5.1 logitech system for 50 bucks. It kicks a$$. Its pointless to buy cheaper sets when you only really save 10 bucks.

what kind of laptop do you have? i know this has nothing to do with the speakers, but i'm just curious.

Sony FE-series with 2.0 ghz core duo, 1 gb ram, 120 gb hard drive, xp pro, dvd+-r dual layer dvd+-rw drive, nvidia 7600 video card...yea

the speakers are okay, but it would be nice to have a nicer pair.

holy crap bigndude, where can you find a 5.1 for $50!??!

http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/products/productlist/US/EN,crid=2172

the cheapest are 79.95.
but ibet youll find them chaeper on ebay or amazon or something.

Forget that, get Logitech Z2300s. They are a 2.1 setup, but are rated to 200 watts (but can go to 400), I own this set and I am not ********ting when I say these things can be heard 100 feet away at high volumes, and the subwoofer is ridiculous. Absolute-hands-down best deal for $100 online, $150 retail. Any 5.1 set at $75 is going to be a pile of crap, don't buy cheap 5.1, buy high-end 2.1 for around $100 at least...

Here: http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/products/details/US/EN,CRID=2173,CONTENTID=9372

CHEAP, KICKASS!

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002SQ2P2/sr=8-1/qid=1151644274/ref=pd_bbs_1/002-5108887-3776017?ie=UTF8

its not only about the volume. high volume without real quality and effects wouldnt be worth it.

but since its only a laptop and you dont need a cinema effect, the 2.1's would do good. ^^ not bad at all.

Sure, but the Z2300s have insane bass. Totally ridiculous bass. Godzilla-stomping-all-over-your-living-room-bass. Holy-Mother-of-F***-I-Need-to-Change-My-Pants-bass. Bass so damn good it might kill brain cells.

I have a couple parrots that I plug into my laptop. When my battery dies, they just switch to repeat!

is it actually good bass, or just a poweful sub, because there is a difference. My roommate had a ridiculously powerful sub that would make our room shake, but it didnt actually sound like bass notes, it was just the change in my drawer vibrating. At home, my subwoofer actually puts out low tones (and makes some **** shake, but like i said, i actually hear notes)

Get these:

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=4148283&type=product&id=1051384267922

Best decision you could make. For the price, I give them an A+. Powerful, clear speakers that are quite satisfying in a number of different uses.

i have the klispch 2.1 promedia speakers. although they sound nice, i don't recommend them. there are expensive and have a few design flaws. for instance, the on/off button is located on the back of the sub so you gotta reach there whenever you turn it off! and the speakers make a loud snapping noise when you turn off the sound source, which is described as "normal operation" by klipsch. bleh. you can get just as good speakers from logitech for cheaper.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16836121118

I had these all last year (my first year), and I saw lots of other people who had them too. They are AWESOME, you can hook em up to your tv too for sweet surround sound. If you have a Sams Club (wholesale store) around they have them for 50, or at least did last year when I got mine, but with tax and everything it pretty much comes out to neweggs price and new egg is amazingly fast at shipping things.

Strykur, my roomate had those speakers. He could crank them up all the way, and mine could drown them out. These speakers have less power, but are WAY louder, have perfectly clear sound, and are priced well. Look at the reviews on newegg and you'll see what I mean, 2000 people cant be wrong giving it 5 out of 5.

Wow, I thought the thread was called "Laptop Sneakers." This is the most disappointed I've been in a while.

Logitech X-530? ROFL. Of course they will drown out a 2.1 set, IT HAS THREE EXTRA SPEAKERS! It looks good, but my concern is bass, and the X-530 pales in comparision to the Z2300 in that area.

Get the X-530. It is a better buy. Save the money and buy an Audigy ZS sound card for your laptop. The bass is powerful enough and no way you will be using that much power from your speakers in a dorm.

Btw calling any sub-$100 speaker "crap" without doing any research is stupid.

Unless you're me... :)

Well the OP said he doesnt even want a sub...so Im guessing he isnt a "power user". Also realisticaly if you blast your speakers in your dorm you will have some quite annoyed neighbors really fast. The very best bet is to spend money on an expensive headset.

Whoops, missed that one! SORRY FOLKS

By the way, I've had experience with sub-$100 5.1 sets, and it's been definitive crap. But then again, I'm the one who who spent 1-2 hours tweaking my damn equalizer when I first got my Z2300s.
