Last Audition Date ~ Unwise?

Hello Everyone,

Happy New Year. My child is auditioning on March 11th. I read a thread saying it is not a good idea to audition for UMICH on the last date. Does anyone know how true this is? Or any feedback would be appreciated.

Thank you for your time.

In the past, students have not been considered for scholarship money on the last audition date - but this does not appear to be the case anymore. That may have been why you heard it wasn’t a good idea to audition on that date.

The other issue for any school with rolling admissions (students are accepted as auditions go along) is that there may have already been a number of acceptances - and not as many spots left to fill. We do, however, know of at least one student who was accepted on that last day.

This is what it says about rolling admissions on the website (but with your child’s March 11th date, they should still be okay - many of the Feb. acceptances will not yet have gone out):

“The School of Music, Theatre & Dance has a policy of rolling admission. Decisions are released approximately 4-6 weeks after each audition day. Although a late March audition date is published for some programs and instruments, typically few openings remain in those programs and consideration will be for admission only. Applicants who wish to be considered for School of Music, Theatre & Dance merit awards MUST audition by March 11, 2011.”

Hmm. The wording is a little worrisome. Maybe I should contact the admissions office for clarification. Thank you again. I appreciate your time and thoughtfulness.
