During the beginning of senior yr, my father had kidney failure and was unable to take care of himself. As a result, I have been taking care of him by taking him for dialysis etc.

Ye my mid year grades have taken a beating as a result of my current situation. Please be honest about my chances. I wrote an essay about my current situation and one about my research involving diabetes( I am a diabetic).

I also wrote essays describing my situation. I am poor and have taken up 2 jobs this year to help pay for the finances. I have been able to hold my family together despite my situation. The emotional stress has been unbearable but has not stifled my pursuit of getting into a top college.

I am very sorry to annoy you cc'ers. I am just very insecure about my chances at top schools because I literally worked my tail off these last three yrs. However, i felt as if my chancse were ruined as a result of my situation. The standardized tests that I took were all without studying as I was too busy taking care of the family. I seriously appreciate your help.

bumppp... comeon please..

what were your scores for each individual section of the SAT?

your reaches are big reaches

Cats1127: are they really big reaches? My situation has been terrible these past 10 months which have affected almost all realms of my academics. I wrote 2 essays on these situations. Yes I know my test scores and gpa are below average for my reaches. I thought however that my extenuating circumstances would explain?

hmm, i would say then that your matches are matches or slight reaches. i don't think you have much chance at all at your reaches, but i can sympathize because i have a difficult living situation too. but who knows? you might have had outstanding essays or something. your scores are just low for some of those schools though, unfortunately.

Well I know that dartmouth is out of the picture. I really want to go to Cornell or Chicago. Do you think I have a fair to good chance there?

i doubt youll get into cornell or chicago - tough schools this yr

well jjjjj I thought Cornell would be a more realistic reach considerign the fact that I applied to Human Ec. I wrote detialed essays regarding my situation and how I grew from it. Also, im the only person in my school applying to human ec. Furthermore, I might qualify for HEOP at NYU and Cornell as my parents income is 24,000 for a family of 4. Taking all these into account what do you think?

umm idk too much about cornell...seems like the24000 would have to do with income..you might get aid....

also it doesnt really matter if youre the only one applying from your school. it may actually hurt because they dont know that much about the kids you are up against.

i wish you the best for cornell

well actually approximately 10-15 kids are applying regular to cornell. I, however, am the only one applying to Human Eco. I know its a reach but do you think it is attainable?

bumppppppp

bumppppppp

bumppppppp. please!!!!!!!

What's your estimated rank?

my school doesnt rank.

chances at one of your reaches may be possible, especially at nyu i think

In terms of your "reach" schools, I think NYU is only possiblle for you. You're fine for the rest.

I think Hum Ec is out of the picture. Check out the Early Decisions for this year...I was deferred with 2130, 720/720,3.7 and i even applied early. By the way, which major did you write down for hum ec. Best of luck though.

don't be down on your matches either. they're great schools too, even if they aren't cornell, and you probably have a good chance with them.
