late application materials

What happens if your teacher recommendations or counselor forms are late because you either gave it to them late, or they made a mistake? Will you be totally eliminated from the application process, or does it end up not really mattering? I like to think that even at top schools there are top students whose forms come in late.

For example, my school is on Christmas break, but if for some weird reason I decided to apply to a school whose deadlines are during break, then the school forms would be late.

I think as long as you get the application in on time, then it's ok. Sometimes things don't get there ontime for whatever reason, they will let you know and you can ask your counselor to fax or send the form again.

Thanks, that makes sense.

Ahhh!! I can defintely sympathize with you.... my GC said she would give me the Secondary School Report before Christmas break (I had forgotten to fill out my personal info on it)... but she was sick!!! so I never got it.... and now I'm stressed... because it's Christmas break. I hope these universities are lenient... its good to know I'm not the only one in this position =S

Don't worry too much. I checked the status of my application at one school today, and apparently one of my recommendations hadn't arrived, though I know my teacher sent out the material a long time ago. When I called the office, they were pretty understanding about it and told me to ask the teacher to resend it; it doesn't matter if it's a bit late.

I'd call/email the school, though, just to be safe. It may vary from college to college.

Make sure you send out transcript ASAP. If your school ask you to use docufile to send transcript, docufile states that some schools are closed Dec 22 till Jan 6th. Today is the last day to send.

What is docufile?

Another question: if I am using the common app, do I need to send in an official transcript in addition to the the one that is included with the Secondary School Report?

D's high school does not send in her transcript. She has to use docufile to send in transcript. Not sure if that is the case if your counselor send in a transcript. Check with the college or its website. Common App does not have anyform that is used to send in transcript(not as far as I can tell).

Docufile is a paperless way to send transcripts directly to the colleges you choose.
