Late date application options

Hi everyone -

Just when we're enjoying posting "we're done with everything" on another thread, I did want to start one about adding new options at a late date. When I hear regrets that a few other schools weren't added, it makes me realize that there are lots and lots of schools that truly have rolling admissions - all the way until August - and for students who really do want to be in college in the fall, they can be a terrific option.

The year my D was applying a girl on the regular Forum completely switched her geographic focus (I don't remember what was going on with the family, but she wanted to be near to them) and reapplied in March to a whole new group of schools. It was amazing how many schools she found that accepted applications so late, and she ended up with several good choices and was very happy with the results.

It would be nice to start a thread of late-date application options with good theatre programs. Sometimes you just have to switch gears, so maybe someone will find this info helpful.

Let's make a few categories. I'll start us off. If there are no other remarks, the school takes rolling admissions at any date, or at least well into the summer:

BA
Hofstra University (used to be BA-BFA, but doesn't appear to be any more)

BA-BFA
University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee

non-auditioned BFA

auditioned BFA

*question: Columbia College Chicago (BA and BFA available) seems to have very late deadlines, but I can't verify them. I also can't tell from the website if or how they do an audition for the BFA. There seems to be some kind of deadline May 1st.

I am not sure of the dates, but today we got an email from Coastal Carolina University describing their program…I am guessing that means they are still taking applications and auditions?

Here the mail has dwindled to a trickle. However, I do know that many schools have rolling admissions well into the summer, including some competitive schools. My neighbor’s son applied to our very competitive flagship in the summer and was accepted into their very highly regarded engineering program for that fall. If a school’s yield is not what they expect, this can very well happen.

Yes, this happens in BFAs, too. Yield is always tricky, so don’t give up on waitlists or rolling admissions.

photomom - Coastal Carolina’s last audition day is this Saturday (I’ll be there - yay!) For the BFA performance degrees you submit the prescreen video and then if you pass you get invited to the on campus audition day. The BA is non audition but does require an interview, which can take place over the phone.

Cornish College of the Arts is still accepting applications until 03/15

Break a leg, austinmtmom…part of me wishes maybe we should have applied as it is so much closer than his other options so far…

photomom - Thanks, but my D is actually a junior there! I’m flying in to see her in “On The Verge”!! I always go by the on campus auditions if I am there for a show to say hi to everyone and also to be around if parents of prospectives have any questions.

The major is open, but you audition for the BFA at some point in your sophomore year, I think.
