I’m a US citizen living in India. My family are all US citizens, but we file taxes in first India and then file our US tax returns. The financial year is a bit different in India, so we’ll only be able to send in our 2014 returns by March 10 (hopefully), past the IDOC deadline of March 1, as well as deadlines from other schools that do not use IDOC. It is literally impossible for us to file earlier. I have submitted my FAFSA and CSS apps before the deadlines and they have been processed at all my schools.
A few days ago, I emailed all the schools whose deadline I’ll miss. 3/6 have responded so far. Two have said there will be no issue; Stanford said that they would not be able to guarantee the date of my award letter, if I were to be accepted, and mentioned nothing about how it would affect my aid. Colby, Wesleyan, and USC have not responded yet, which worries me a bit. If I don’t receive a reply soon, I’ll call them.
Does anyone here have any experience with sending late tax returns? Despite what schools have said, would this (even slightly) have an impact on my received financial aid? Are the tax returns mainly just for verification of my CSS and FAFSA?
