Anyone have any insight into how colleges handle late teacher recs? Application and all other available documents were submitted 2-5 weeks ahead of Jan 1 deadline.
It depends on each college. Some colleges are more lenient, others may be harsher. I would go and call the school in question to find out what your next steps should be as well as how the admissions office would view this.
For example, Stanford accepts late recommendation letters as long as the application itself is on time.
They’ll continue reading any day now. You won’t be the only applicant whose teachers use the 1/1 deadline or even miss it by a few days. Though adcoms could get to your app in the first days, they have plenty of time before decisions.
But rather than call all the colleges to ask a hypothetical of some random staff (or wait for an answer,) why not find out where your teachers are in terms of finishing and sending? That’s a lot simpler and may light a fire under them. Have you spoken with the GC?
Thank you for responding. The problem with Jan 1 deadlines is it is impossible to reach anyone during the winter break. We were able to reach NYU post holidays and were told that they would accept late teacher recs. Once school was back in session, my kid’s recs were submitted ASAP.
