This information is from another academic board.

'Their comments indicated an average SAT of 1210-1220, 3.8 GPA, and 20-24 hours of college credit. Between 33,000 and 35,000 applications with about a 42% acceptance rate. We took 6,000 new freshmen and about 2,000 transfer students. Only about 30% of the class is FTIC. Roughly 95% of students have Bright Futures. They indicated these stats would rank (FSU) incoming students in the top quartile of entering classes nationally.'

To summarize:

Average SAT - 1210-1220
Average HS GPA (got to be unweighted) - 3.8
Average AP/DE/Other HS College Credit - 20-24 Hours
Number of Applications: 33,000-35,000
Acceptance rate: 42%

This would give all interested students an idea what the average Florida State freshman/transfer student credentials look like.

It's my understanding transfer students are held to the same standards as freshmen.

you didnt know FSU sucked? Why did you want to go here anyways? All they have is some stupid musical program and the FSU alumnis are like "we will catch up to UF soon!" Its somewhat funny.

no your absolutely right! They do only accept 42%. But since Im from florida I know the mentality of the FSU applicants. A lot of kids from my school apply there with 2.9's-3.2 and 1050 SAT only to wait to get rejected. The applicants applying is what makes FSU look so good because a lot of people apply their that dont belong in a university. Think about it. Your probably a smart man, why is it ranked 110 and declining? Only a floridian could understand.

Sorry I just dont want some bright young kid to go to accidently go to a bad school. Someone has to have some input from a non-fsu grad. BTW, I dont even go to UF or anything so I dont ahve any "feelings" towards it.

Let me just say, chances please16, that as a FSU student I am EXTREMELY offended by your post. To hear such comments from a person who doesn't even go/has graduated from a school seems a bit comical, doesn't it? What exactly is the mentality of "FSU applicants" as you so blantantly state in your post? I graduated high school with a 4.3 GPA, more than 200 hours of community service, and as a member of tons of extracurricular activities, including the National Honor Society. Currently I'm a Biochemistry/Pre-Med. major. Does that make me unfit to belong in a university? Do only people who have the opportunity to attend the oh so elite UF have the opportunity to succeed?

Secondly, tons of people, TONS, choose to go to Florida State because they really have no other choice in the manner. For example, FSU was giving me tons more of financial aid than any other school that I applied to and at the same time got accepted to. Seeing as how my family is middle class, I was not willing to put such a tremendous strain on them with my schooling. Hence, FSU has paid EVERYTHING of mine since I enrolled in Fall 2005. I'm basically getting a free education, something I would not have received from other schools.

Third, FSU is not a "bad school." The decisions of some of the students who attend it are what give it such a reputation. I myself am not one who tends to party a lot, but a lot of my friends are; these are the same people who complain and complain that they are failing this course, that this teacher sucks, and yada...yada.. yada. The classes here are challenging, and it's up to one to decide whether they actually want to succeed or not. FSU offers TONS, and I mean TONS, of opportunities to help their students succeed. Whether one takes it is their decision, but the fact that a large amount of the students don't tend to focus as seriously on their work and would rather go out and party should not hinder the university itself or the programs that they offer.

I really have no more to say, only that before you speak so openly about how bad a school is or etc, you actually get your facts straight and do some research or spend some time on the campus to learn about the environment.

lol first off your completely off. The "partying" does not make it a bad school. UT-Austin and Penn State are bigger partying schools (top 2 by princeton review) and they are both top 50 schools. Also remember that even though I do not attend college, my dad, my brother, and my sister went/go to UF. Still doesnt mean I like it. Also congrats on your 4.2 gpa, but you are truly one of a kind since the average WEIGHTED gpa is a 3.8. Thats like UF's average UnWEIGHTED. Anyways FSU use to be a good school but now bad/mediocre?

Define bad/mediocre.
The students at FSU are well above average and the school offers many wonderful programs and a fantastic, friendly atmosphere. With your own 3.87 weighted GPA and 1180 SAT, you would fit right in with the non-honors students.

fsu is actually an excellent research university, too, you just have to know what fields. physics, biology (evolution and ecology mostly), and chemistry have excellent grad programs which tends to correlate to a atleast decent undergrad. i dont go there or uf, so im not biased (even though im from tallahassee; but i wouldnt want to go there myself). so go away cause im smarter than you, chances.

perhaps your smarter than me. But I bet your some nerd. See in life you want all around people not some text book nerd.
BTW My bro got into UF with a 1150 and 3.9 W gpa but he dual enrolled and UF likes that. (graduated with an AA degree out of H.S)

you cant really classify someone based on such little information, but you can think whatever you want. also there is a difference between "you're" and "your." people who have been speaking english for 15+ years should know that.

its informal chat. Im not going to spell check my response like a nerd. AHHHHH I MADE A MISTAKE I MUST CHECK MY WORK SO I CAN SHOW OFF TO PEOPLE!!! Of course its only the computer guys were not being tested!

The weighted/unweighted GPA was not defined. I can tell you that my youngest daughter, just a freshman at FSU this fall, had a 4.4 weighted and a 3.8 unweighted HS average overall.

I suspect it's unweighted...but if I find out the correct answer, I'll post it.

your wrong. I know for a FACT that UF's average gpa is 3.9-4.2 WEIGHTED. So why would the gpa of a nole be a 3.8 Unweighted then making a guess that a 3.8 UW would be a 4.2 W? That means the FSU freshman are just as qualified as UF's which is not true. Ha it makes me laugh when you guys bend facts. "I suspect it's unweighted" KEYWORD=suspect.

Don't take a lull in the FSU freshmen stats as some kind of remarkable trend in comparison with UF.

No one said anything about UF. They're having a great run now, and they deserve plenty of credit for taking advantage of it and/or making it happen. FSU needs to do the same.

The real difference between FSU and UF freshmen is not that great; so I'd be a little more circumspect before throwing stones.

Take heart - you appear to still have some time to ramp-up for an FSU freshman application.
1. Take the SAT/ACT (whichever you do better on) again and again - after solid preparation. FSU will take the best scores.
2. Scour the FSU Admissions webpages for clues as to what they want in an applicant.
3. Visit, if possible, an FSU admissions officer for a real read on your credentials and what you can do to improve your chances if necessary.
4. Apply EARLY (August) as soon as the application period opens.
5. Apply for Summer session (have to adjust #4 timing for this) if the fall cycle is out of reach.
6. Consider TCC (in Tallahassee) if FSU is out of reach as a freshman, then try and transfer. This may be much harder with an out-of-state college.

First of all yes my gpa is above the average applicant of a 3.8 weighted and my SAT is lower than an average applicant. But one thing I have is a 3.87 college dual enrollment gpa and sooo many ec's that you would be impressed.

I am not impressed with your 'dissing' of a 150+ year old university which employs thousands, helps millions, and is the dream school of many, many kids.

If you have facts, present them. If you have an argument, make it in a credible way that impresses us with your fairness, integrity and concern for others.

If you just want to throw rocks and sling mud go elsewhere. I don't really think the folks at the UF board want that attitude, either.

I admit that I have been somewhat rude but it all started way back when my friends (that are fsu fans) say FSU is a better school! Anyways at least you have enough dignity to actually admit that UF kinda has the torch right now in florida. Basically when someone from up north or even myself think of florida universities, UF and FSU definetely share as the flag ship university.
