UF is enjoying a new high point in FTIC stats. They should enjoy it while it lasts. UF fans like to crow about these figures at this point.

FSU is suffering through a bit of a trough, likely due to the controversy surrounding the hiring of Wetherell. This hire cost the university in the reputation department per the US News ratings - which is somewhat political. This loss of rating causes a loss of stature with FTIC kids, to a certain degree.

These figures change over time. The current FTIC SAT scores, per the FSU website are:

The middle 50% of the 2005 entering freshman class:
GPA 3.4-4.0
SAT 1110-1290
ACT 26

As an alumnus, I've written to the administration about this, as have other alumni. We're not happy with this performance, they could do much better.

Having said that, FTIC stats are important but not the sole representation of the quality of a university. I've listed many different analyses showing the ratings of the various graduate departments - which compare very well with both UF and the University of Miami.

Have you had the experience of applying out of state to FSU, only to have your application cancelled, WITH NO WARNING, due to “bogus” reasons?

Most institutions revel in the notion that their admission process is top-secret but public institutions should not be allowed to hide biased practices behind a process shrouded in secrecy. Preliminary evidence shows that FSU uses arbitrary cancellations to whittle down their applications rather than review them.

I have two examples of unfair treatment. If you are interested in details, feel free to contact me. I am writing an op-ed for the newspaper and I would like to have more examples. I would like to reference your specific experience with the FSU Admissions staff and if necessary, I can change your name if anonymity is a concern.

My school counselor and I are shocked by recent unceremonious cancellations and we look forward to exposing the practice to future applicants but we need your assistance.

Lots of admissions decisions are arbitrary, and my guess is that if you know someone, even in this day and age, you can get in IF you meet minimum requirements. OOS admission to FSU is tough. Students have had applications cancelled for all sorts of reasons. Some find out that they never paid the admission fee. That is rather common. Some do not meet minimum criteria for SAT. Some have a conduct issue on their official record, or a counselor rec contained info that caused the application to not be considered.

Good luck to you. I doubt you will uncover much.

If you are applying OOS, you might as well consider yourself applying to a private institution as FSU has no obligation to you as a tax payer.
