I will be a freshman at BU this fall.
I know this sounds kind of crazy, but I am a little worried about doing laundry. At home, I handwash my clothes, which means I’ve never done laundry before.
It doesn’t seem so hard to do, honestly, but I’m afraid that I’ll make some sort of mistake.
Can somebody please explain to me how to do laundry, specifically how to do it at BU in Warren Towers?
An answer from a current student would be much appreciated! :)

I lived in Warren Towers my freshmen year. The large laundry center is located on the third floor (same level as dining hall) and has 20+ washers and dryers. I lived in A Tower and we also had a smaller laundry room on the fifth floor with ~5 washers and dryers. I never had to wait for one on the fifth floor but I did laundry at off peak times during the school week and avoided the weekend rush. Some believed the machines dry better and faster at the larger laundry room as they are commercial grade with large glass windows. The washers are identical IIRC.

Last I checked its a $1.50 to wash and $1.50 to dry payable by cash or Terrier card. I got an email several days ago about new Terrier cards being issued (what a great use of our tuition money lol!) so I’m not sure if that will change.

As for handwashing I would not advise doing so in the communal bathrooms at WT. There really isn’t a place to hang your items to try aside from your mini closet/wardrobe. Hope this helps.

Do you know how many bathroom stalls there are in Warren Towers?
What are the bathrooms like?

3 stalls, 3 showers, 5 sinks. Also lockers to keep your stuff in (bring a combination lock). As long as your floor mates can agree on some basic hygiene rules (wipe off your hair from the sinks and shower walls, do not leave paper towels on the floor etc…) then it’s pretty livable. The cleaning ladies work hard to keep it clean, but they don’t work Fri-Mon afternoon, so if someone pukes all over the bathroom on a Friday night, you’re stuck with it until Monday afternoon.

Does anyone know if the other dorms’ bathrooms are set up the same way? Specifically Rich Hall in west?

If you want to avoid using detergent, companies like Tide sell little pods as an alternative. You don’t even have to measure anything out if you use them. You throw one pod in the washer and it does the trick. Just buy a bag of pods for the washer part and a bag of dryer sheets for the dryer afterwards.

Otherwise, make sure to separate whites and colors. To be safe, it’s good to wash with cold water for colors and warm water for whites. For drying, I usually use the permanent press setting for both. The settings are all marked clearly on the machines.

The laundry facility that’s closest to where I live is 44 Buswell Street, but I don’t live in that building. It’s ok for students from other residences to go in there and use their machine, right?
