laundry at Vandy?

For any current students - what seems to be the easiest and most economical way to do your laundry at Vandy? There was a laundry service brochure in our orientation packet. Do you have any comments or suggestions?

The most efficient is to if possible take your laundry home and do it yourself there. It's free. If you can't do that, do your laundry yourself with the machines. Just make sure you have a laundry money stash if you at all times. The laundry service is way expensive. The only reasons you should need to use the laundry service is if you have a rediculous amount of clothes, you can't do laundry (two things that can be easily remedied) or you need a speciality service like dry cleaning.

But don't you think it take a lot of time as you have to guard your laundry by staying near it? Also I heard that there is a problem with the shortage of machines. Is it worth to clean it by yourself in these circumstances?

i lived in vandy barnard and rarely had a problem getting a machine.

There are a shortage of machines in Kissam, yes: 4 washers and 10 dryers for 600 folks, so most of the time you're having to travel to Vandy-Barnard, which has a lot more machines. Now, I live in towers where there are plenty of machines.

Either way, when I did my laundry I'd often go back and chill in my room rather than wait and I never had a problem with my laundry being taken out.

hmm..
Then I might want to be in Vandy Barnard than Kissam
I chose to be in the singles so the chance to be in vandy barnard is quite slim but I have to cross my fingers on this one.

It's not too bad; i mean, how often does one need to do laundry? Also, you get used to the walk to Vandy-Barnard (for the Varsity market/munchie mart).

I saw that Kissam is having a construction during the SAOP. The student leader gave my group a visit in the room and introduced it briefly.

Is Kissam having a renovations or something? maybe building for more washers and dryers?

From what we learned at SAOP, Kissam Quad rooms are undergoing renovations to update and provide movable vs. built-in furniture. The beds are to be lofted to allow for more space. Don't know anything about the laundry rooms, but that would be nice!

They might be.
For what I experienced during the visit, the rooms in Kissam looked to be quite smaller than that of Vandy Barnard singles. Windows looked quite small and walls showed bare bricks with white paint on it.
In conclusion, it looked like a basement.

Actually Kissam rooms are bigger than Vandy-Barnard rooms.

We were told by the housing office that 2 of the Kissam buildings are being renovated this summer with the movable furniture, etc. The others will be done over the next two summers.

At SAOP, we were told that the laundry facilites at Kissam are going to be expanded during Christmas break, so if that's the case, the situation should be better by spring semester.
