LAVC to UCLA Economics--When to apply for transfer?

Hello!

Thanks for taking the time to view this topic.

I was reading over the pinned "UC Transfer Guide" topic and came across this:
"4.What happens if I don't complete all my major prereq's by fall?
You will not be affected. As long as you complete your prereq's by spring before you transfer you'll be fine. Some uc's will even let you complete some classes during the summer. But this depends on the school's policy."

I was just want to make sure I understand that quote.

By the end of this spring semester, 2012, I will have completed the IGETC, the TAP requirements, and all of the Econ prerequisites EXCEPT Calculus 1 and 2. As of now, I have a 4.0 and should still have it by the end of this coming spring.

I was planning to take Calculus 1 this fall, 2012, and Calculus 2 the following spring, 2013.

My question is this: Should I bother sending in my application for UCLA this fall of 2012? Or should I wait until I have completed Calculus 1 and 2, and then apply in fall of 2013?

Based of my reading of the aforementioned quote, it seems I should be fine if I send in my application this fall...but I'm still not sure.

Again, to whoever reads this, thank you for your time!

Try taking Calc I during summer intersession and II during the fall semester. This way when you send out your application, you will have finished your prerequisites.

If you can’t take it during the summer, I would still apply. It’s not the best scenario, but your credentials should assist you.

Thank you for the advice Mitch. Sadly, I don’t think my CC has Calc for its summer session…I think there are only remedial courses, although I may be mistaken. I will do some more research. Worse case scenario, I don’t get accepted and I can spend a year working, volunteering, studying, and exposing myself to new material (statistics, microeconomic theory, et cetera).

If the commute isn’t a problem for you, you could try SMC for calc I during a short intersession. They offered the course during their last winter intersession.
