Lawrenceville vs. Milton

I really need help choosing between these two schools! If anyone has any advice it would be very much appreciated. Talk about the good and bad things of each school or sing praises, whatever you have to offer please feel free to share!

(Sorry for the double thread if you saw the previous one by the way)

Lawrenceville for sure!

Milton has too many skeletons of racism and scandals in their closets https://www.bostonglobe.com/metro/2017/02/28/sexual-abuse-scandal-milton-academy-was-years-making/VevcqBFN8gH8bAGhNDBzVP/story.html

As opposed to Lawrenceville?

If you google the name of almost any boarding school + scandal, something is likely to pop up. One should not exclude schools based upon past scandals, but should look to see how the school dealt with the scandal and the steps that they have take to protect current/future students.

I have friends that attended both schools. From what I hear I’m pretty sure you’ll definitely never see anyone at MA fist pumping any type Black panther and the fact that in Lawrenceville a black student felt comfortable enough to do I think speaks for itself versus let’s say a swatiska written all over gym lockers or a hanging noose or kids wearing black faces for Halloween…now they are talking about 30 years in the making of sex scandals. Idk that’s kinda way too out there

Looking at all the replies (which I’m thankful for) I’m not talking about scandals. Is there any other information you can offer?
Thank you for replying though! I’m grateful!

L’ville is down the street from Princeton and has close ties where they have some kids taking classes but not sure about MA. Other than that I think both are great schools :">

@kaiabun one of the alumni at Milton said they knew a kid who took maths at MIT

Oh okay so there you goooo!

@missinghome21: Will you be a boarding student at either or both of these schools ?

@Publisher yes I’ll be a boarding student at both of these schools

As a boarding student, Lawrenceville is attractive because it has 818 students in grades 9-12 plus PGs, 68% of whom board.

Milton Academy has a much smaller boarding population and has classes from K-12. Among the 9-12 grades 50% board. Milton Academy is too much of a day school which includes elementary school children.

Your choices present two very different environments. The choice should be easy.

@Publisher

I see, however, I feel like they have more in common than you think. Even though Milton accepts students from K-12 onwards they do have strong academics, like Lawrenceville and they should be about the same size from what I saw on my tour.

I just really struggle with this part because even though Milton is different in the fact that they are mostly a day school they still have really good academics.

I believe that one has 700 students & the other 818 students–if I recall correctly. Similar academics. Otherwise very different when school ends as parents must carpool kids home from one.

Congratulations & good luck.

Also, one has PGs & one does not.

@missinghome21 do you feel drawn towards one more than the other? At the end of the day, it’s you who will be living there. What does your gut tell you?

@SkysTheLimit2007 My gut is very confused honestly. They’re just both really really good schools. It’s a hard choice and even if I trust my gut I’m second guessing it.

We loved the house system at l’ville! It sounded like hogwarts with the competition!!!

@momof3swimmers It is pretty cool! And house spirit seems to run high there. I’ve heard this praise uttered a lot on various forums so that’s a positive thing for sure.

Interesting – I thought the house thing was cool too (having gone to a school that was set up in a similar way). A nice way to have a community within a bigger school.

BUt the last 2 kids I talked to who were considering L’ville saw it as “just another way to compete at a school that’s all about competition anyway.”

I’m sure there’s a happy truth somewhere in the middle.

I currently attend Milton as a boarder and I’m going to tell you right now that it’s definitely different than Lawrenceville. You’ve probably heard all of the pros of attending Milton so I’ll give you some of the cons. Because half of the school consists of day students, the weekends become very boring because there isn’t much planned. This is especially true during the winter season. Some people describe it as “being stuck in a prison”. My class is also VERY racially divided… Everyone at Milton knows the term DSG (Day Student Girl). Every grade has "DSGs " and people define them as being unoriginal and say that they all wear the same thing and act the same way. One of the things they are most popular for is all of the likes they receive on social media accounts which ends up being frustrating for some because we are here to learn, not to flaunt how “loved” we are online. If you want to talk more, just send me a message and if you choose to come to Milton, we should get together at the beginning of the school year to chat!

@ishy1522 I’ll definitely be in contact soon! Do you have any pros to add on to the cons?
