Lbw 2012

lake2013, I’m sure it’s designed for both types of students.

What is everyone doing for location, because I preferably want to go to the Philadelphia campus?

the philly campus is going to be pretty popular, i think more ppl want to go to the one in philly just b/c its actually in UPenn. But then again, past ppl who have gone have said that both campuses were equally amazing.

Major Differences between E/W:
-Companies visited. As mentioned previously, E visits mostly traditional business establishments (Deutsche Bank, Deloitte, Skadden Arps, etc.) while W given proximity to Silicon Valley visits lots of tech companies and startups. I think this is a super-critical distinction to note.
-Location/Accommodations: Pretty self-explanatory, Philly vs. San Fran. I loved living on the Quad @ Penn, where there is blessed air conditioning! Dorms in general were great, can’t really comment on W here.
-People: E/W will have more people from the E/W, at least that’s how it was my year… Both will have lots of international folks.

There are a lot of other “soft” things like personalities and dynamics of the two campuses, which were pretty different last year, but I imagine those change year to year, so I’ll refrain from posting my (probably pretty biased) perceptions…

Since there isn’t a place where you can specify which campus you want to attend, what do you think would happen if you didn’t mention it in the optional essay? Do you think they would just contact you at a later date and have you choose? Anyone else think it’s kind of odd that they don’t have somewhere in the app for you to pick a campus?

Caughtinntraffic,thank you for your information.

It’s really weird that there’s nowhere to say which campus you want. I’d check with JKCP to make sure.

Also, as an east alum, I’d have to say that Riepe, the dorm we stayed at, wasn’t kept super nice in the summer. It’s manageable, but when west comes, they stay in Ware, and the dorms seemed nicer over there. I’ve heard good things about SFSU dorms too.

I am an students from overseas, and I just started to apply for LBW… Will it be too late?
By the way, I got 2080(math:800,CR:670,and Writing:610 in december’s SAT…am I qualified.?. Cause You guys mentioned thoses superhigh scores…

How long was everyone’s activity descriptions? Can anyone proofread mine?

I have about 70 - 100 words, you?

Currently at 285 for the first one, but I could honestly make it 2k+ and still not cover everything i have done… I will try to keep it under 300 words though. The other ones will be shorter.

Can anyone proof my 1st one? It’s packed with info, but doesn’t exactly “flow” how I want it to. Also, how long are everyone else’s?

If this is any help, last year mine were basically bulleted lists of description, achievements, and awards. All of them ran up close to the word limit.

quickster, do you know how competitive the M&T vs the LBW summer program ?

I emailed LBW and asked where we should put our preference of either San Francisco or Wharton. Here’s their response:

We are in process of sending out a note to applicants and updating our website with some breaking information. Due to a temporary housing shortage, we are unable to offer LBW in San Francisco for the summer of 2012. We anticipate hosting LBW students in San Francisco for the summer of 2013.

For LBW 2012, the admissions committee plans to admit 120 highly qualified students. Admitted LBW students will be housed and participate on the Penn campus in Philadelphia, PA.

quickster, I was wondering if the word limit for the activities is also 300 or it could be longer? thanks a lot

The limit for the activities is 1000 characters each, I believe.

I am so excited that this program will no longer be on the west coast!! I didn’t apply for financial aid ( even though I could really use it) just because it MAYBE MIGHT give me a better chance. I know that doesn’t make sense but yeah, if I get in, It will be worth paying for. Not that I’ll get in.
But anyway, I live on the east coast and now I definitely won’t have to pay for an airplane ticket! This is wonderful.

in other news…

 1. has anybody finished their app yet?
2. My January sat scores back:/ 1850!!! I regret not studying or taking sat classes☹ Can alumns tell me if I should submit it?

Sooo… Im really not expecting to get in. 3.2 gpa for freshman sophomore year, but this year it’s like 3.6. Even though my school is really competitive, I have an upward trend in gpa and outstanding extracirriculars, I am totally prepared for a rejection letter. this program is competitive as anything (everybody who applies is damn serious).

Anybody else want to share feelings?

I JUST finished my application. I think they look at far more than your grades, although your grades do count somewhat. Make sure your essay states exactly why you think you’re right for the program. You should send in your SAT score because they said it was highly recommended.

I am very disappointed that it won’t be in San Francisco this year… I’m more of a tech/startup kind of guy than a wall street person.

Anyways, does anyone know how long the activities things should be?

Just checked the application and it looks like they have added a 1000 character limit for each activity. This really sucks because I currently have over 2k for my first one and I still feel like it’s incomplete. This on top of them not having it in SF this year really is making for a crappy day
