I just have some questions about UPenn's LEAD Business program...

1) How competitive is it? Do you have like Valecdictorians fighting each other? Or like kids in top 10-5% getting in?
2) What do they look for in applicants?
3) How is it like?
4) How much race matters (for ORM like Asians)
5) How worthwile it is?

Thanks... I really want to go next year or the next but I don't know anything about it... It's supposely really hard to get into but idk... help me please?

Hi! I applied for this year’s LEAD program, but I am kinda pessimistic about my chances since I am 100% Asian. From what I’ve gathered from the CC threads, LEAD is extremely hard to get into, even harder for Asians. I heard there is like one Asian per site, so basically it’s ridiculously hard for someone yellow to get into. However, I have also heard that the program is extremely worthwhile and will CHANGE your life. If your Asian like me then the only real thing you can do to help your chances is pray I guess ;P

1) How competitive is it? Do you have like Valecdictorians fighting each other? Or like kids in top 10-5% getting in?
Kids are accepted way beyond the top 5-10%. The requirements to apply are that the student maintain a 3.0 GPA and score above 100 on the PSAT. The program is catered toward URMs so the objective academic stats of LEAD attendants are not as close to as high as other selective summer programs.
2) What do they look for in applicants?
URMs with demonstrated business interest.
4) How much race matters (for ORM like Asians)
Immensely. The program is targeted towards URMs. It is much harder to get in as an ORM (Asian). Selectivity for Caucasians is somewhere in between the two.

Well ^^^^ most people refer to LEAD as in the Business Program. I’m not entirely sure about the engineering one though. From the looks of how not many talk about it, probably a little less ‘exclusive’ than the business one. Nevertheless, it’s undoubtedly prestigious.
