LEAD Summer Business Institute

Good Luck Everyone!

Just wondering, have you guys heard about the LEAD reunion?

this is probably irrevalent....
but wat about LBW(Leaders in Business World)
is that a good program?

Ihatesats2, i was looking into that as well (penn being my number one choice)...the only thing that turned me off was that it cost so much money (5K+) and it didnt offer any credit for that money. Lead is well recognized and LBW might be a good-backup if you have your heart set on studying on Penn's campus this summer. I actually applied to the Management and Technology Summer Program as well. That costs 5K+, but you do get credit for courses taken so thats a bonus. It just seems like more intense and more techie version of LBW (neither are too prestigious). But if you do want to apply to Penn ED, spending time on campus can help with a Whypenn essay? It also shows you did something over the summer that you were interested in (business).

To make a long story short, I would look into it further, but for your 5,000 , you basically get a camp-type experience that isnt too prestigous. On the upside, you do participate in business activities as well as stay at Penn!

so where did everyone apply for their top choices????

Penn

Dartmouth

Stanford

Duke

Northwestern/Cornell/Michigan (i forget, hahah)

i actually am looking to apply ed to sterns but since sterns does not have any summer programs i am lookin elsewhere. I am between LBW and a summer internship program in NY. What do you think I should do? Is there any other program that I should consider?

i dont enough about LBW to give u a definitive answer, but i think a paid internship in the city for the summer would look better than a 3week 5,000K program with no prestige nor credit (not even at NYU). But as long as you're doing something this summer, nyu will be happy with it.

I'd suggest trying to find internships and then apply to LBW just in case your heart changes, you hear great things about it, or if you dont get an internship. doing something this summer is better than nothing.

and btw, i hate the sats too.

I am so anxious to know if i made it! im keeping my fingers crossed!

Same her madicent; where did you apply as your choices? Mine are in a previous post on this page.

i posted a list of preferences earlier, but i ended up changing them once i found out the dates
so my new list is:
1. Wharton (Pennsylvania)
2. Stanford
3. Duke
4. UVA
5. Cornell

I didn't read all the previous posts but just wanted to say I have two kids who have been involved with LEAD and they both really loved their experiences.

One attended at UVA and the other attended at Dartmouth. The experience seems to be more influenced by the students and organizers in your group as opposed to the particular institution you choose. However, the programs do take advantage of whatever opportunities are in proximity. For example, at Dartmouth they might visit Goldman Sachs in Boston, or the production plant and offices of Ben & Jerry's in Vermont. At UVA, they might go into D.C. to BET's studios, or AOL in Reston.

What they took away and enjoyed most were the new friendships. They have maintained their friendships well beyond the program.

I will also add that they both say they learned a lot from the program. One is now an avid stock trader and studying Business. The other is currently considering internships with a couple of consulting firms.

As a parent, I'm a big fan of this program and plan to send another student when it comes time.

Good luck to all of you.

bump.

decision time (late march?) is almost here!

so does anybody have a better idea as to when we will be hear and how they are going to tell us i.e., mail or e-mail?

I heard they will send out decisions next Tuesday via e-mail. I'm sure a letter will come days afterwards.

Fingers crossed.

god i remember being in the same position last year...
they said that they would have decisions by a certain date but really ended up mailing them like two weeks later...

anyway the lead program was an interesting experience. i did my at northwestern (it and penn are the only four week long programs). i was really interesting. i met some cool people that i still talk to nearly a year later. that is the one strength of the lead program. it has a really tight network of "alumni." i know ppl who did lead ten years ago and still talk with classmates.

its a great opportunity to learn from experienced professionals and meet cool businesses *we went to jp morgan, ibm, and the masterfoods factory where we got to eat freshly made ice cream...SO good

plus the program offers really good financial aid (i did the program for free and they paid for my transportation)

but as you will eventually learn from ppl, each program has its own little quirks....(won't say any more) :P

anybody heard anything yet?

checked my email today, nothing from LEAD :(

Did anyone call Lead to find out what the hold up is?
