LEAD Summer Business Institute

OMG, deadline this friday and I haven't started on the essays! damn you procrastination!

Good luck to all
and above all be authentic
most LEADers got into LEAD and their first SBI choice without outside/alumni help on essays and applications....at least the Wharton leaders did lol

I sent in all of the necessary info to the LEAD office, now I have to send in the application online. I have all of my essays written, but both go over 500 words (no essay is of excessive length); does anyone know if the electronic application cuts off the essay after 500 words, or can the reader can still see it?

Mr. Tubbz speaks the truth
you may get opinions on your topic but stick to someting that interests YOU
YOU need to do the research/have the understanding of the topic etc...
get someone to read your essays to see if it flows, perhaps, and you can ask readers to check for grammar
read your essays aloud... and most importantly, do YOUR OWN APP
I talked to some ppl (one lol) about topics, but in the end, this is YOUR essay
*did I put in the word "YOUR" enough lol
finally, whether you are accepted or not
try to present yourself the best you can on paper
and realize that just like the college admissions process
that this is not the golden ticket to life--if you get in, you are fortunate and blessed (while also expected to achieve greatness)... if you do not get in, your life goes another route, which you can still take to success
keep your heads up everybody!

and on the rankings of LEAD SBIs
um
not really a set ranking--some schools you would naturally place high on the list have been slipping lately... not my opinion either
(not naming any names so do not ask)
go where you think you might enjoy yourself (ALL OF THEM ARE FUN AND EXCITING AND CRAZY NICE EXPERIENCES!)

Penn & Stanford are the 4-week programs and are known to be the two most sought after SBIs... Penn is the original SBI and is home to The Wharton School

I say just go with your heart
I had Wharton 4th--CALL ME CRAZY, RIGHT!?! lol
but perhaps I wouldn't have ended up Illinois if I had ranked Penn any higher
I didn't fully understand all these rankings and the prestige of Wharton and all that jazz like I do now but I know the way I did it was best
Ms. Dewer and the committee are also very aware of where a LEADer would fit in best so do not be disappointed if you do not get one of your first two choices or even one of your first four choices

SUMMARY = forget the Biz Week rankings, forget the US News, all that stuff
listen to your heart/instinct, listen to LEAD alumni on their experiences, and go from there... also compare dates if there are other programs/vacations/etc... you have this summer

Hey i just finished my LEAD application
all set and done
now just got to wait
i wanna thank all the people who helped me!!!
DJ- BEBE GIRL- MR TUBZ- ROOOONNNNN!!!!!!!! everyone thanks it just goes to show how awesome the alumni of LEAD are

=)

AWW..djperez- thanks for the shoutout :)

Whew. Application is in; forms/recs were sent Priority on Monday (I hope it gets there from GA by Friday); what a relief. Hopefully I'll make it to my first choice (UPenn). I thought everything was done to the best of my ability, the only caveat would be my EC's, I do not really have any "business" EC's. Oh well, hopefully my grades, essays, and recommendations will speak for themselves.

I just found out that the program is only for US citizens/residents. Very depressing... :( didn't know and I already got my recs. Is there any program like LEAD that's for non-citizens??

Hmm...
good GPA (3.9 UW), SAT (2240), PSAT (216)
but I rushed through my essays, and I don't know if they're good at all.
Work experience good...2 internships that are still going on until now (2 years in june)...
good recs...
What do you say?
In or rejected?

please do not turn this thread into some kind of chance thing
that is not even benefitial; none of us here select the LEADers each year

Mea culpa, mea culpa.

does anyone know when we should hear back?

we heard back first week in April last year
who listed Illinois in top 5
more importantly, who listed Illinois #1
(in other words, who is trying to have the most fun this summer with Dean Mullins and Dean White aka Jewell)

Illinois #1 alll dayyyyyy

The program coordinator told me that accepted applicants will be notified in late March.

wow, you guys are all waiting patiently it seems

just wondering, do you get a confirmation telling you that they received your application?

a few weeks ago, i got an email from ayanna dewer that said that she got my online application and was waiting on my other materials to be mailed

bump
day by day does the day approach
