LEAD Summer Business Institute

does anyone know where you actually list your top 5 choices?

Um…does anyone know about how much FINANCIAL AID is available for this program??
I really want to do it but my family is not very well off.
And also, the website did not make how much I would have to pay up front very clear.
Any info would be great
thanks

I read that LEAD is primarily catered towards “minorities”. I’m Asian American (Chinese) – would that deter my chances of getting in?

@guhraycee: I asked the people at LEAD and they said you can list your list in the “what else would you like us to know about you” section

@wahkimoocow: you find out about financial aid once you are accepted so until then I would suggest just applying to see if you get in… also you have to send in a $35 money order with your application or else its incomplete and they won’t look at it

sorry _wishonacupcake I wouldn’t know the answer to that…

Also they made another website

http://www.leadbusinesssite.org/</a> and the old one is LED hope this helps!

yes that would, being asian… i don’t know anyone who got in as an asian

does anybody know how hard it is to get in as a domestic male caucasion? Would a 2200 SAT and 3.8/4.0 gpa be competitive stats or is it almost impossible to get in not being an URM. the program says that they “encourage talented students from DIVERSE backgrounds to pursue careers in business.” From what I have read it seems like minorities make up almost all of the accepted applicants.

Yeah, it would be helpful if anyone had information about the racial breakdown of LEAD attendees.

my class had no white or asian students. pretty sure it’s mainly (read: only) for blacks and hispanics.

mybmanglass, Jersey13 and nafter, and others concerned with these issues:

I will answer your question, and refer you back to my previous answer concerning the same type of concern:

Even though you may not be the typical minority applicant to LEAD, the basis for acceptance in LEAD is the quality of the application, the experience you have, and the person you have become- the promise of your contribution to society, not your ethnic background. You can be assured that LEAD accepts all types of students, regardless of race and background. Your application will be read solely for its content, and the basis of experience and quality of person it reflects; not any other method of measure.

If you have any other questions that I can answer, please feel free to e-mail me.

in the “more about me section” is it out of place to talk about my parents’ poor financial status at this time?

How does LEAD compare with other top summer programs such as TASP/RSI?

um i am submitting my app right now. it should be there on monday.
do you think they filled all the spots already??

I just finished my application too and am sending it this afternoon. I hope it gets there in time :/

I hope we all get into LEAD!!

i sent my application already but do you think if i didnt send the article attached they would not look at my app??

Nicheelle, I’m sure they won’t not look at your app. Did you mention the title of the article in your essay? If you did, or if the business decision is pretty well known, then I think you should be fine! :)

Now begins the wait…

i posted a link with the essay…bad idea?

and i hope we all get in tooo!!! power to CC
lol

either way—what were your essay topics??
mine was soo random.

I submitted my application this afternoon and was wondering if anyone got a confirmation email. I didn’t and it’s making me think I entered my email address incorrectly.

@wahkimoocow: From the application: “All candidates are required to submit two original essays. Each essay should be up to 500 words in length. Please type your essays in the spaces provided below. DO NOT paste an internet link or document icon. The essays must be typed in a readable text.”

Yeah, I didn’t get a confirmation email either. I will probably be sending them an email later tonight.

Man, I hate being that guy…you know? lol

I hate doing that sort of thing too, but am not willing to take any chances. I already sent them an email :)
