bumpp… this thread is going too far downn

the application deadline was extended to March 1st! and why does it seem like I’m the only one posting in this forum :(

I hear that LEAD really emphasizes diversity. Anyone know if white males have any hope of being accepted (albeit this white male is from a less-competitive state)?

Essays,

Even though a while male is not the typical applicant to LEAD, the basis for acceptance in LEAD is the quality of the application and the experience you have, not your ethnic background. You may be assured that your application will be read for its content, and the basis of experience and quality of person it reflects; not any other method of measure.

lkinc,

Can you give us some target numbers for PSAT, GPA, etc? Any additional information that isn’t published on LEAD’s website would be greatly appreciated.

how much is the program?

@guhraycee: From what I read previously, LEAD is $900 for three weeks and $1200 for four weeks

Question about Lead, the minimum criteria stated on the application/website, if I remember correctly, was a 2.0 GPA and 100 PSAT/1000 SAT? That seems awfully low to me, especially since I hear LEAD does have a slight degree of prestige.

its a 3.0 gpa…and yea that is a bit low…but at least it encourages more people to apply.

and I am definately interested in this program…but HOW IS THE FINAID??
My family might have to strain to scrape up the funds without aid.

I’m more bothered with the 100 PSAT/1000 SAT. Setting that as a minimum qualification is like setting no minimum at all, and unlike other summer camps it certainly doesn’t lead to self-selective applicants. Seeing as LEAD is arguably the most prestigious business-oriented summer camp for HS juniors, I would expect that the cutoff for applications was something around a 220 PSAT score.

for past LEAD attendees…any tips on application?

in addition, is this program targeted specifically to minorities? would they recognize a female asian american?

From what I’ve heard, URM’s constitute the majority of the program.

the cutoff definitely isn’t 220 for PSAT. where’d you get that idea?!

Guyraycee:

My son did LEAD last year and my best advice would be 1) be yourself in your application, a genuine person with an interest in business and 2) answer the questions in a complete and through fashion. Show that you are passionate about something and that you have some experience in leadership. Just based on my son’s experience, the person with the highest GPA isn’t always the person selected because in my opinion LEAD looks at the whole person. Good luck to you, it is an incredible program lead by a wonderful in=house staff, caring Deans, professors and staff from top universities.

What does “no preference” stand for? Does it mean I will fill any leftover spots available as open?

& thank you itsv!

I didn’t get that idea, I expressed that I would have preferred if that were the cutoff. Please read before assuming.
