Well, that’s a bummer man.^

I didn’t get the invite, so it’s not true that “everyone gets it.”

My stats are pretty good (2280, 3.96 UW), so I doubt it’s the type of thing where there is a threshold GPA/SAT and they send it to everyone above that. My guess is that they really do look through all of the apps, see who mentions leadership roles, and then send out the email to them.

Congrats to all who got the email!

I think that 10,000 includes current students and transfer applicants, not just freshmen applicants.

@OACLJV- you should check your junk mail. It was in mine lol

2300+ 4.25 UC capped GPA
didn’t receive~!
So it might just be worth something?

@5oviet seriously? I got a 2170 sat and some decent leadership( though not very much) and got the mail… Is it based on the essay also then? Because my essays were definately very good! And if it is, then that means ucb has had a good look at every application…

I’m guessing it is based on EC and essays. My S’s essays definitely demonstrated " innovative, initiative-driven leadership" as they put it in the email.

CAA may be getting a partial list to select from the admission office.
Based on the above posts (specially if some of the @solviet caliber didn’t get it), CAA may have picked the pool with better EC’s and essays.

@ask2014 and @JCCsmom, you be correct. it could be the essays

@ljmom

I think you’re right. I definitely highlighted my EC’s (leadership positions) in my essays, and tied them back to my major and what I want to do in the future. Maybe it based off the EC’s and essays. I showed a Cal admissions officer my essays via email before submitting my application and she told me they were great. Hopefully the invitation is a good sign to all!

Hmmm I’d say my ecs were good …research/patent/everything from debate to music to work
If you’re curious I think I posted my stats
My gpa is 4.0 uw with toP classes (calculus junior year etc)
I had some leadership as well like mun president and other club positions
So really don’t discount yourself if you got the email

Guess its probably random then… maybe they just skipped your email

Nope, @vivendium, not in my junk mail.

I did get the UCLA alumni scholars email, so I don’t feel completely dejected right now. Berkeley is my first choice school, though, so I hope that not getting this email isn’t a foreshadowing to rejection later on.

I got the invite. ~3.96/4.5 UW/W GPA, 35 ACT. however, although I have 3-4 small club positions, I am not president/leader/founder of anything whatsoever, and nothing too special honestly. a few of my friends also got it who are mediocre and have no strong leadership demonstrations (trust me I’m not underestimating anything)

I got the invite. I have pretty good stats (35 ACT/3.9 UW GPA), but my ECs are a bit weak. Heck, I don’t even have formal leadership positions… so I dunno.

Its definitely not sent to everyone, and seems to me that they have actually had a good look at each application because some of my classmates with similar scores and GPA have not got the email, and one with a score <2000 has…

^Yah, I have a 1900 SAT and a 4.00 UC GPA/4.21 WGPA. Those stats are kind of low for Berkeley, but my ECs/Essays are fantastic. I’m glad that numerical stats aren’t the only thing we are evaluated on.

Guys, don’t get ahead of yourselves. I think I know why some people are getting this and some people aren’t. When applying, remember we had to pick certain scholarships? Well, one of the ones I picked from miscellaneous was “Student who has demonstrated academic excellence as well as leadership in extracurricular activities”. I think all the people who selected this or some other thing that is somewhat close to leadership got this e-mail. Let me know otherwise.

I got the invite, 2390 SAT and perfect GPA at school (4.26 but that’s the highest achievable), but I do think it was done based on a sweep looking for people with leadership positions AND like @agg999 said, clicked that box. Or maybe just people with the box? It certainly wasn’t just scores based on this. I also got invited for regents today, which is a guaranteed admission, but I don’t think there’s a casual effect there.

Also no causal effect.

Sheesh my bad, that’s what I get for typing a response quickly on an iPhone.
