Is the application for the Leadership Award evaluated separately from your UC application? Since I'm running out of time I was thinking about editing an old essay and submitting that...but I don't want to do that if the applications are evaluated together, since my essays (UC personal statement/scholarship essay) would be very similar.

No one knows for sure because you are asking students who probably don’t work in that department. Most likely, yes though ; ]

Alumni organization does not see your UC app

@UC-Dreams: petaandpita is correct. The Cal Alumni Association is not part of the Cal university administration. We don’t see your application (or admissions essay) at all.

note: Only submit the old essay if you can work it into the prompts for the essays requested. It would be pointless to submit it if doesn’t completely answer the questions posed.

Great, thanks to all of you.

A question for CalBear2009 : has there been some sort of glitch with the emails inviting students to apply for the Leadership Award? I know these are sent to everyone and have nothing to do with admissions decisions. My son has received 5 emails which at this point is adding insult to injury as we are pretty sure he’s been rejected. (He’s a longshot applicant with a disability who didn’t receive a supplemental questionnaire so an acceptance seems most unlikely). Five repeated emails strikes us as excessive unless the alum org is having problems with its mailings.

^Same thing happened to me. I put it on my block list.

@samuck: I wouldn’t count your son out yet. Not everyone who is accepted is asked to complete a supplemental questionnaire.

I had no idea there were so many emails being sent out about the award. I’m not on the administrative side of the award. I’m simply a reader and interviewer. I would definitely suggest requesting an ‘opt-out’ by calling the alumni association at 888-CAL-ALUM (888-225-2586), or by using the email form on the CAA’s website:

[Contact Us | CAA](Contact Us - Cal Alumni Association)

Thanks, appreciate the responses!

PS - email number 6 arrived this morning - but as it’s headed 'last day to apply…", I won’t bothering blocking CAA. This has GOT to be the last one! And CalBear2009, thank you for the encouraging words but my understanding is that any student with a disability who is a possible admit receives the supplement. Just being realistic here.
