Leadership Positions as a Transfer

I'm transferring as a junior to Chapman in the fall, and I definitely want to get involved in campus orgs and student leadership. I'm planning on getting involved with Chapman University Democrats, Greek life (not sure which sorority yet, obviously), campus radio, student government, and intramural sports.

My question is, would I realistically be able to achieve leadership positions in these organizations? I ask because most, if not all, of the other students gunning for those positions will have been at Chapman since freshman year, they will be more known and will generally have a better shot at leadership positions than a junior transfer. I'd like to get involved with Senate or House Reps right off the bat, and hopefully get a position on Executive Council by senior year.

As for the other clubs/orgs I'd like to hold some kind of leadership role with those by senior year. Any advice on how I can quickly make myself known and improve my chances at student leadership? Obviously I'm going to be social and immerse myself into campus life, but any tips beyond that?

To be honest I think you’re getting a bit ahead of yourself here. Its good that you want to do all these things, but realistically you’re not going to be able to just come right in and be in a leader position.

I never heard or seen a club where a new member joins and becomes the club president right away. There are a lot of other people in that club vying for that position.

I would just get accustomed to university life, watch how things are done, and then your senior year shoot for the top spots.

Unless you have a lot of clout at the school, I wouldnt get your hopes up.

You can definitely get involved and join all these different organizations but more than likely these clubs have already appointed officers for the upcoming school year, last semester. You can try to get a leadership position for Spring 2012 and that would give you Fall 2011 to get used to university life and learn the campus/people you should know, etc.
