I am a senior and would like to spend my summer before starting college fairly productively. I have been wanting to learn sign language for some time now and think this time off would be perfect for that.

Can anyone recommend any programs for this? Either online programs, DVDs, or actual classes?

(I live in the Greater NY/Tri-State Area...)

Good plan!

There are plenty of free and paid courses online. I’d stick with free ones to avoid getting scammed; I found these lessons: [•; ASL • American Sign Language](ASL American Sign Language).

For in-person classes, I found a one place that might be what you’re looking for, but I don’t know how close you live to the city itself: [Sign Classes](http://www.deafcathnyc.org/sign_classes.htm).

If there are any deaf-related organizations in your area, you should call them to inquire about courses they might be aware of.

Wow! Thank you so much. Your post is super helpful. I will check out those links. Anyone else with advice?
