Is it useful for a freshman to apply for a learning community, such as greenhouse in leopold and chad bourse residential college? Also, how many other freshmen would be in the community? In a hall such as Leopold, Should I apply for the housing with the learning community or the normal one?

Sorry for so many questions and thanks in advance for your replies!

Spend some time reading about the choices, and process, on the website. Size of learning communities varies, from many of the hundreds of students in Chadbourne to one half of one floor in another dorm. The benefits include that you live among students who share your interests and priorities; generally, selecting a learning community increases your chances of getting your preferred housing choice. At least in the past, if you are in a learning community, you get to actually select your specific room. From my sophomore UW student, it sounds like the learning communities are not especially intense. If you have questions about activities associated with a specific learning community, you could probably email the learning community advisor associated with that group, it is all on the website.

Good luck.
