I was just wondering as to what the least popular major or concentration at Princeton is... anyone have any insight as to this?

so basically you want to increase your chances of admission by applying with that major?

Underwater basket-weaving

American Sign Language! :)

Economics.

English, duh

The Common Sense major starring logic, reasoning, and, thanks to ms. north (or south) carolina, geography!

darn, I honestly wanted to apply for Slavic Languages and Literature & might even end up studying it but I chose engineering instead & i’m not doing so hot in AP Calc. hopefully if I get an interview I can explain that I no longer have the intention to study engin. especially since I rock at languages!

Really? Slavic languages? I would have thought a lot of people would want to learn Russian - I listed it as a possible major (along with econ and IR). Well, should I get in, I will have a lot more personal attention then, that is pretty nice!

Classics, Anthro, EAS, and NES…

Anthropology is a pretty large major I believe though?
At least, in my country it is quite popular.

Maybe really, really narrow fields within engineering too?

The registrar’s office maintains the stats for the number of students in each major. Here are the stats for the last 10ish years:

I suspect that Russian’s popularity has ebbed since the end of the Cold War. These days, a very large number of people are studying Chinese.

Given the strength of Princeton’s astrophysics department, I’m surprised that only two people graduated with a degree in it in 2008-2009.

Well, I think that’s in large part because of the strength and reputation of the physics department which attracts many who might otherwise have gone astrophysics.

Russian studies has changed dramatically - since the fall of the Soviet Union, there is far less money and fewer jobs, in and out of academia. Many departments have cut back greatly.
Astrophysics - starting salaries are low, jobs are scare.
