Hi! So, I was thinking that this could be a thread for everyone that is applying to Leda for 2016- 2017. (Cohort 13!)
The application just opened up! I don’t have high hopes for getting in, but the program is worth the effort!
there’s a forum from LEDA 2016 that is really helpful and full of other Cohorts helping, so hopefully this is sort of like that?
I hope so! Good luck to everyone applying!
@brilliantbachu I sure hope so.
time to try to say my entire life story in 500 words or less…
@brilliantbachu I’m actually scared to put my entire life story because I think I read in a previous forum that they later ask about your life story, but I’m not sure. Does anyone know if this is true?
Also, does anyone know when this typically starts if we get in? I’m applying for another thing and if I get into it I wouldn’t want to disappoint them by saying I couldn’t make it!
The 7 weeks starts around the 3rd week in June, I think.
If a former LEDA scholar is reading this, can you explain what exactly you did on a daily basis? All I know is that there is test prep, writing instruction. and college visits. Is there anything someone should know before applying and does mentoring continue after you’ve left the summer program?
@Hamlon I’d also like to know this information. But, I do know that mentoring does continue after the summer program.
Does anyone know the income guidelines for LEDA? It states low income but what are the actual numbers?
Does anyone know if I can still apply for LEDA if I attend a charter school? I still don’t pay tuition to attend school so I don’t see why I shouldn’t be able to but anyone knows a definite answer?
Hey! I’m a LEDA Cohort 12 scholar from Los Angeles,California and you guys should be really excited to apply! It is an amazing program to go to and not only is there test prep, Aspects of Leadership classes, and writing classes, but there are community activities where you can really connect with your fellow cohort members. You will visit several different colleges along the East Coast. We visited Georgetown, Johns Hopkins, Swarthmore, UPenn, and Columbia. It starts the third Saturday of June to the second Saturday of August. You can apply to LEDA no matter what your income! I know a scholar who’s income was higher than 60K and as long you don’t go to a private HS, you can apply to LEDA. In other words, charters and public schools are fine. If you have any questions, just PM me!
I’m also a Cohort 12 LEDA scholar. I’m from Bakersfield, CA. I strongly encourage you guys to apply to the program. My fellow Cohort scholar pretty much answered your guys’ concerns so far, but feel free to reach out to me with questions, too :3
If we get accepted how do we get there? Do we pay for our own mode of travel or would they?
@brilliantbachu They pay for it… I’ve researched so much it’s insane. I want to be accepted so bad.
SAME. I’ve been obsessively researching this program it’s kinda insane
@brilliantbachu They pay for a plane ticket, but if you live close enough to Princeton they’ll pay for a bus ticket instead.
I’m a Cohort 12 scholar as well, and you should definitely apply to LEDA. @cryinginspanish hit on this pretty well, but LEDA is an amazing program. With that being said, I was super anxious throughout the whole process because I had so many questions, so please feel free to ask me any questions you have about LEDA.
@Ahmeda14960 How much homework did you have? This isn’t going to make me want to do it any less. I’m just curious…
