Aunt who was graduated from Barnard.
Does this constitute legacy? If so, does it make a whit of difference in the admissions process?

It probably doesn't mean a whole lot, but it would probably be good idea to mention it on the application. You never know what little thing might help along the way.

I agree with Calmom. A true "legacy" in terms of directly assisting your application is probably immediate family....sister, mom, maybe grandmom. However, having someone fairly close to you who attended could mean that you have a better understanding of what Barnard has to offer. If you can convey a sense of THAT on your app, and that you and Barnard are a FIT, I think that would be to your benefit.

Best to you!

It also helps because adcom thinks you will come. These days schools manage yields. S got a likely bletter from Wesleyan because cousin attended (letter referred to "strong family connections" to school.

Good luck!

Yeah, any connection is worth mentioning. My great-grandmother went, and my great-aunt taught in the philosophy department at Columbia for almost thirty years (I had her write a rec), and I got in with relatively mediocre stats.

I think that no connection helps so much as conveying that you really, really want to be there, though.

Good luck!
