Hello, I received an invitation in the mail today for the Legacy Breakfast on August 20. I'm an upcoming first year student, and I'm not sure exactly what this breakfast is for. It says, "Important information for entering legacy students." I thought it might mean students who have had parents attend the University, but neither of my parents (nor grandparents or close relatives) have gone to UVa. Any idea what this might be? Thank you.

It's probably a mistake, unless they're using the term "legacy" in a different way. Maybe you should contact them about it? Was it from the Alumni Office?

Yeah, it was. I was also named the Ridley Scholar a few weeks ago and was kind of told that could involve some alumni work. Is that another possibility?

What's a Ridley Scholar? Do you get money? What are the criteria for being one?

Yeah, you get money. It's something like $1500 a year, I believe or basically the meal plan, ha. And have to go to a few speaking engagements, as I understood it, at least. I had to apply for it, then was interviewed for it before receiving it. Hope that helps (and thanks for helping, as well).

Was it a scholarship given by the alumni association? I've never heard of it.

Ahh, so that's why I haven't heard of it.
