Hey did anyone get an email about the Ridley Scholarship Fund. I wondering if anyone knew what it was about? I might apply for it, but I find it a little weird that the deadline is Apr 2. Should I bother applying for it if I don't even know if I will be accepted on apr 1?

I recieved this email also. According to the research I have done, the Ridley Scholarship Fund is an endowment created by African American alumni at the University of Virginia. It seeks to attract high quality African American applicants for various scholarships. I am unsure of whether or not to apply as well. Do you think that students who recieved the email were pre-screened or something, or did all black applicants recieve the email?

I am not exactly sure I thought it had something to do with UVA outreach greetings email I recieved a couple of weeks ago, but I am starting to think it is something completely different. I dont know if all black applicants recieve it though because of the people i know who are applying none of them have heard anything about this. i guess i should apply if it is a scholarship but im just not sure wat to think of it.

Same here. I have talked to several students and have been told that they recieved the emial after they were admitted. Therefore, I think it is a positive thing that we recieved the email. I think they probally weeded through the black applicants in search of likely students who could apply

"Thank you for applying to UVA. We certainly hope your application is successful. While we cannot confirm yet that you will be accepted, we applaud you for your excellent academic work thus far. As you are awaiting a decision from the University and planning your college selection, we wanted to let you know about some of the scholarship opportunities that you can apply for now, through the Ridley Scholarship Fund."

If anyone has any thoughts on what this means in terms of admissions or anything else, please let us know.

Someone has contacted you about giving you scholarship money. Why wouldn't you try to get it? Apply! Apply! This is FREE money that you don't have to pay back. It's worth a few minutes of your time.

Yes Dean J. I guess I am just somewhat weary of applying considering the fact that we do not even know as applciants if we were pre-screened. I checked the app, and it seems to require several essays and a resume. I do not want to consume my time completing an app if im not even going to get in.

You already have at least one of those essays written! The first essay asks for just a sample...any essay you've used for a college essay. The second, if memory serves, is about an activity, which is also one of the essays on the Common App.

Yeah, your right!! Im just going to go ahead and do it. UVa is my first choice so I better go ahead and do it!

yeah im with jlb2820 it is free money might as well apply anyway!
