Does UMich take legacy status into consideration? I know its a public school, but I think they do ask you if any of your relatives went to umich on the app…

They do ask about relatives who attended, so I am going to assume that they take it in to account...or else they wouldn't have asked.

Check the UM site, but I think if one of your parents attended UM, you are considered instate for admission purposes.

I'm wrong: I just checked the UM site and this is what it says

Question
One of my relatives went to Michigan; will this make a difference with my application?

Answer
You may list alumni relations on your application. Although not a primary factor in admissions decisions, having a parent, step-parent, grandparent, or sibling who attended Michigan will enhance the review of your application.

Michigan definitely counts legacy status. Under the old point system, It was worth 4 points - the equivalent of 2 tenths increase in GPA.
