Lehigh Class of 2017!

No that’s certainly not too much to ask! I just want what you want plus to get into UPenn Med School and to get a million dollar a year job as a surgeon! This definitely isn’t too much!

Don’t worry about the estimators, just wait to see what Lehigh says. And there are always scholarships/grants/the horrible loans.

Plus I know someone who got into Lehigh ED and she couldn’t afford it and was going to have to withdraw her acceptance but she talked with the financial aid office. And they managed to work something out(: But that’s extreme cases.

But I think it is universally noted that people who apply ED should be able to pay the tuition:/

Well yeah, I made sure that no matter what happens I’ll be able to afford the tuition, but still, that’s no small amount of money! Hopefully we’ll both get in and do BioE, that would be awesome! There’s so much enthusiasm for BioE this year :P

It seems like everyone wants to study BioE!! I don’t know if it’s a good thing or a bad thing, but it’s cool to know that so many people are interested. Do you know how many people usually major in BioE? Is Lehigh selective about it?

Being “need blind” is what many schools will claim while admissions in reviewing applications are “need aware” of the applicants financial situation. If they have to decide between 2 students in ED1 with the same exact credentials and one is not requesting any financial package, who do you think they would accept knowing that student must commit if accepted? Lehigh would rather not have to accept someone who later backs out because they couldn’t afford the tuition.
LehighLove…you did the smart thing if you REALLY want to attend. Once you’re accepted you can then apply for financial aid the other years you’re at Lehigh and just take out a bank school loan for your Freshman year…but you’ll be in!!! It is not an equal playing field because Lehigh’s a private elite university…the best odds of getting accepted would be if you apply ED1, a female, legacy, student of color, live in the mid-West and don’t request financial aid… +++ excellent SAT scores.

Well I’m applying ED1, female, NOT a legacy, not of color, not living in the mid-west, and not requesting financial aid. And because Lehigh only looks out of a 1600, I have a very strong score.

I’m hoping for a scholarship because that would only be fair to my parents.

Lehighlove -

Well, there are 450 students in each engineering class (about that many, at least), and BioE is only one of several majors in that school. I’d guess no more than 30-40 BioEs, but I oboist that’s just a guess! And the engineering program itself is very hard to get into. Unlike Johns Hopkins, though, Lehigh doesn’t have a limit on how many BioEs they can accept, thankfully.

WaitingDad -

I only have the ED1 and the SAT scores in my favor… Now I’m worried again! I hate when people tell me to stop worrying because I’ll definitely get accepted - Lehigh is actually very selective! I hate this anxious waiting. If I applied for finanial aid will that hurt my chances on its on merit or do I need to NEED financial aid for it to hurt me?

LehighLove,
You are not in any competition with your male counterparts, but in fact have the edge because you applied ED1. You are only going up against other ED1 female applicants! Lehigh has definitely been giving preference to ED1 female candidates ever since President Gast took over a few years ago.

Lehigh2017-

I feel like the BioEs are a really close family:P but I’m almost definitely going to switch to neuroscience if I get in.

And really, calm down and don’t worry! I saw your chance me thread and honestly, applying ED will help you even more(EVEN THOUGH YOU DON’T NEED THE HELP!)

I think you’re going to have to create a new class of 2017 thread:P counting on that we’re on page 6 and decisions aren’t even out yet…

While my stats are good, my “hooks” are not that incredible, but thanks for reassuring me! If you want to do neuroscience so badly why did you apply BioE? BioE is probably harder to get into! I would switch to neuro or psych if the grades started to hurt my chances at med school, but BioE will probably prepare me SO well for the MCATS, even though I’m sure any Lehigh professor will also teach me a hell of a lot!

As far as this thread goes, I was thinking for a while that the enthusiasm for Lehigh drastically went down because no one was posting. Now, finally, there’s a conversation! Between three people, nonetheless!!

Lehigh2017,
The school will determine if you qualify for financial aid and the amount. You are only at an ED1 disadvantage if you “need” for example $30,000 and another student with equal credentials needs only $5,000. If you visited Lehigh multiple times you should be in great shape. Another fact is that everytime you contact Admissions with a legitimate question (not what is the Bethlehem weather like?) it is noted and recorded in your file for them to note your interest level. If you showed interest and obviously applied ED1 you should be climbing the “Hill” in August!

I probably emailed admissions more than I should have! And I think my questions were legitimate. Either way, I believe I showed interest pretty well (I certainly did at my high school where my math teacher actually calls me Lehigh - he went to Lehigh, too) so hopefully that helps me.

WaitingDad, do you have any experience with merit scholarships and how they’re given to ED applicants? I feel as if they’re less likely for an ED than they are for an RD.

The hill-__- That must be fun in the winter:/ And yeah I love that Lehigh takes interest into a lot of consideration.

And when I applied I was more interested in BioE, but I just love neuroscience a lot more.

Oh okay I see! That makes sense :P

In the winter the hill at least looks beautiful - I’m not sure if I’ll feel that way when I have to climb it though…

I have no experience with the Merit Scholarship program. Sorry. Did everyone get a chance to view the 2010 Lehigh LipDub? My 2 kids participated in it and if you don’t fall completely in love with Lehigh after viewing it you’re not human. I think everyone on this forum will be hating Lafayette College in no time!

:O I definitely have to see it now!

I SAW IT!!! It was great, you have to see it Lehigh2017!!

And I saw Lehigh when there was the wintery snow on the ground and it was SO beautiful, but so cold:( and slippery!

Wow that was good haha! But seriously, if I watched that and knew nothing of Lehigh I’d probably assume it was 90% female haha!

I wish I went in the winter! When I saw Lehigh it was SO hot out and there were virtually no students :frowning: I should have done another formal tour, in hindsight!

Guys do you know if we can visit ( tour and info sess) in january after submitting applications. If so, does Lehigh take that into account with our already submitted application ? Thanks.
