It comes down to this. BC was my top choice and just got in off the waitlist. I am really happy but I have a dilemma about the money. Lehigh will cost me 8k a year and BC will cost me 20k. Is the difference worth it? I’m going for biology pre med.

If money is tight, then save the $48-50k for med school. OTOH, if your parents have the money, then I’d say it’s worth it. Premed at BC is excellent. Not only is Boston an awesome college town, it has plenty of bio-tech firms willing to hire undergrads for research and internships. Plus, the Core will mean that your readin’ & writin’ is strong at the end of four years, which hopefully will translate into a higher mcat-VR score.

But if you are a science-geek, then perhaps the Core is not for you.

I chose BC over Lehigh IBE when May 1st rolled around. Although you and I are looking to major in different things, one reason I choose BC was the atmosphere. Bethlehem is a quaint town, but there isn’t much to do and some parts are a bit sketchy, although there are definitely sketchy parts of Boston. I had a friend who was admitted to Lehigh looking to major in basically the same thing as you, and from what he told me the bio/pre-med was a bit lacking at Lehigh.

Of course, money is a large factor, so if you or your parents do not think you can afford to finance it, plus med school down the road, go Lehigh. It’s still a great school and with enough hard work you’ll end up where you want to be.

Go to BC! 4 years in Bethlehem or Boston ? Easy answer.
Can’t comment on the cost , strictly a family issue.

Don’t make your decision based on wanting to be premed. That will inevitably change in a year or so to some degree.

Make your decision based on which school fits you best. Choose the one that is the most well-rounded so that should you change your focus down the line, you’ll still be somewhere with all-around excellent resources.

My heart says BC. My brain says lehigh. My question is should I follow my heart just to pay an extra 12k a year? because I’m doubtful I should. I feel like they would give me a similar education in the long run and I will have equal chances of getting into med school…

Most med schools say it doesn’t matter what undergrad school you go to, so both BC and Lehigh will prepare you well for medical school no doubt. But you should take into careful consideration that the school you choose is where you will be LIVING. You need to like it and want to be there. BC is near Boston, so it’s always nice to go into Boston for concerts and shopping. Lehigh is in Bethlehem, a nice little town that across the bridge does have some nice restaurants (but I’ve never ventured into that town too much).

Also, you need to take into consideration the student body. While both schools have intelligent student bodies, they also have drinking reputations. However, Lehigh seems to be more about partying and has frats while BC does not. BC students tend to be preppier than Lehigh students, but this is all a stereotype of course (while there is probably some truth to it). Overall, I’m sure you’ll be happy at whichever school you choose because they are both great.
