You do realize that the t400, t500, etc. are supposed to replace the *61 models, right?

They became available starting July 15th.

how official is the july 15th release date?

No idea, but it doesn't hurt to wait, I suppose. Unless you have a coupon or something.

Ah okay. It's just that I heard that it was delayed until August (or later), and I don't currently have a laptop and school starts August 22nd for me, and it'd be pretty inconvenient to go a month or more without my own computer :(

it would be extremely unwise of lenovo to have it pushed back.they are losing the "back to school" crowd.

I was looking into the T61; if anyone has any reliable information on a possible release date for the T400/T500 it would be much appreciated...

i think its july 15. they deninfitley want the student sales.

srunni i hear base t400/t500s will run n the 1500-2000 range? is that for reals?
werent t61p's starting at 1000 when they came out.

The release is August 5th.

I am getting one.

<a href="http://www.ocad.ca/AssetFactory.aspx?did=3644%5B/url%5D">http://www.ocad.ca/AssetFactory.aspx?did=3644</a></p>

Check out the price... it's pretty high but I bet I can knock a few hundred off that.

There's no way those prices are accurate. If you read the fine print it says something like "these prices are estimates and are subject to change."

I know, because I just bought a T61p. Compared to the T500, not only is the T61p the older model (so it should be cheaper to begin with), they are also offering huge discounts on them to clear out their inventory, so the T61p is going to be a LOT cheaper than the T500 (unless I'm missing something?). And it cost me about $2100 for my T61p with the Cal discount, with a configuration that is comparable to the T500 on the right on that page, which apparently will cost just under $2000.

Something seems fishy about that. A little too good to be true, I would think. But I don't know where that page is from. I also know that Lenovo has been very careful not to release any official information, especially about pricing, so this would have to be speculation anyways.

Dude,

I just ordered a 15" T61 for my friend with these specs:

CPU: Duocore 2.5GHz 6MB Cache
RAM: 3GB of PC2-5300
HD: 160GB 7200 RPM
OPTICAL: DVD Burner
BATT: 6 Cell
WARR: 1 year accidental
OTHER: Printer, bluetooth mouse, lock

All for under $1,400 shipped.

I'm pretty sure I can get the T400 for around that price.

I am most definitely getting the T400 for the LED backlight and DVI. and built-in GPS obviously!

Check out more specs: <a href="http://shop.lenovo.com/ISS_Static/merchandising/US/PDFs/t400_and_t500_datasheet.pdf%5B/url%5D">http://shop.lenovo.com/ISS_Static/merchandising/US/PDFs/t400_and_t500_datasheet.pdf</a></p>

Whether I get the T400 or T500 depends on price and availiablity, though it seems like I'm leaning towards the T500 since it (reportedly) has a DVI port. It's mainly for the battery life.

As far as what I have to say - spend the money on the processor and DVD drive. However, save on the HD and RAM. Those can easily be upgraded for much cheaper yourself (or by a resident geek).

Save on the warranty also - it's quite a bit cheaper to purchase accidental insurance.

Looks like that's the pricing and configuration for the release of the new ThinkPads.
